An air induction system is disclosed for an engine that comprises an air cleaner, an inlet air conduit, a Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAFS), and a secondary air induction system. The air filter encloses a filter element that removes contaminants from the air supplied to the engine. A MAFS is disposed in the inlet air conduit and measures the mass of the air flowing through the inlet air conduit to an intake manifold of the engine and provides data to an engine control module that controls the air/fuel mixture supplied to the engine. The secondary air system receives air from the air cleaner that is provided to a vehicle component and includes an inlet port located upstream from the MAFS. The secondary induction conduit draws air through a port integrated with the MAFS bore with an air pump to provide clean air to an engine component or exhaust system component.

A turbocharger system includes a flexible duct having an elongated elastomeric body extending longitudinally between first and second ends configured to attach to respective turbocharger devices. A plurality of constricting rings are spaced longitudinally between the ends. Each constricting ring applies a radial compression force around a respective circumference of the duct. Each ring is comprised of a molded thermoplastic retained in a concentric shape by a clasp. The spacing of the constricting rings has a density sufficient to limit a volume increase of the duct under turbocharger operating pressure to less than 20%.

An engine system including an air intake duct positioned upstream of an engine cylinder may include an ice ingestion feature for retaining condensation. An ice ingestion feature may include indents formed in the bottom of an air intake duct wall. As such, the ice ingestion feature may include compartments and/or grooves of varying depths, widths, and/or angles such that the ice retention rate may be based on the surface area of the compartment or grooves.

A cold charge duct, a system and method are provided for removing and controlling the reintroduction of a condensate in diesel or gasoline engine intake air. The duct may include an exterior wall which may define a passage configured to pass air from a turbocharger to an engine. The exterior wall may have one or more openings, and a separator formed to be substantially flush with an inner surface of the external wall. In this way, it is possible to utilize an edge-based separator to generate a sudden decrease in the flow rate thereby causing a water condensate to drop into the openings for later reintroduction into the engine.

Charge air cooler duct system and method

An engine system is provided. The engine system includes an intake conduit positioned upstream of an engine cylinder and also includes a PCV outlet opening into the intake conduit. The engine system further includes a condensate bypass duct in parallel fluidic communication with and vertically below the intake conduit, the condensate bypass duct including a duct inlet opening into the intake conduit and a duct outlet opening into the intake conduit.

A light reflector imaging a high-intensity light beam includes a reflector part shaped as a portion of an ellipsoid, and a reflector part with two parallel edges, shaped as the zone of a sphere. The smaller parallel edge of the spherical reflector part serves as an aperture. The ellipsoidal reflector part has a rectangular opening offset slightly in one direction from its axis of revolution, and large enough to receive a socket. The ellipsoidal reflector part connects to the larger parallel edge of the spherical reflector part to enclose a lamp. A curvilinear reflector part can be attached to the aperture of the spherical reflector part to more narrowly focus the light exiting from the disclosed light reflector. The curvilinear reflector part is a paraboloidal-like shaped tube, which varies in curve and length according to a desired output angle. Other attachments to the two-part reflector assembly include a thin cylindrical tube into which a glass piece is mounted to cover the aperture. Alternatively, the thin tube can house a collimating lens to further focus exiting light. The majority of light shining from the lamp enclosed by the light reflector takes one of three paths. First, light shining towards the aperture of the light reflector exits directly. Second, light shining towards the spherical reflector part is reflected towards the ellipsoidal reflector part. Third, light shining towards the ellipsoidal reflector part is reflected towards a focal point beyond the aperture, exiting the light reflector through the aperture.
