The present disclosure is drawn to sizing compositions, which can include 25 wt % to 80 wt % starch based on dry components, 15 wt % to 60 wt % cationic multivalent salt based on dry components, and an organic additive. The organic additive can be a water-swellable polymer having a weight average molecular weight ranging from 150,000 Mw to 1,000,000 Mw, a wax, or both the water-swellable polymer and the wax.

An ink fixative solution including a polyvalent metal salt; a wax; a dispersing agent; and water in an amount to provide from about 10% to about 35% solids content in the ink fixative solution is disclosed

Ink fixative solution

The present disclosure is drawn to ink fixative solutions, which can consist essentially of a polyvalent metal salt, a holdout additive, and water. The polyvalent metal salt can be present in an amount from about 1 wt % to about 5 wt %, with respect to the entire weight of the ink fixative solution. The holdout additive can be present in an amount from about 2 wt % to about 20 wt %, with respect to the entire weight of the ink fixative solution. The holdout additive can be polyethylene glycol, glycerol, carboxy methyl cellulose, hydroxy ethyl cellulose, a fatty acid, a fatty acid ethoxylate, or combinations thereof.

Ink fixative solutions

The present disclosure is drawn to sizing compositions, which can include 40 wt % to 85 wt % starch based on dry components, 10 wt % to 40 wt % cationic multivalent salt based on dry components, and 1 wt % to 15 wt % inorganic pigment selected from a calcium carbonate, a swellable clay, or combination of the calcium carbonate and the swellable clay.

The present disclosure provides recording media and methods. In one example, a light weight media sheet for high speed printing can comprise a paper substrate having a basis weight of less than 100 gsm; a first flatness control layer applied directly to a first side of the paper substrate, the first flatness control layer having a coating weight from 1 to 15 gsm, wherein the first flatness control layer comprises a polymer selected from the group consisting of a polyvinyl alcohol, a polyamide, a polyimide, a polyethylene oxide, a polyvinyl pyrrolidone, a cellulose, a starch, an acrylate, copolymers thereof, and mixtures thereof; and a first ink-receiving layer applied directly to the first flatness control layer, the first ink-receiving layer having a coating weight from 1 to 40 gsm, where the light weight media sheet has a total basis weight from 40 to 150 gsm.

Media sheet

A print pre-treatment module is provided for printing an ink on a PVC print medium from a printer. The PVC print medium may have exudates on the surface. The pre-treatment module includes an impermeable material in rubbing contact with the PVC print medium, which is supported on a media roller conveying the print medium. Also disclosed herein are a printer incorporating the module and a method for reducing print defects on the PVC print medium.

Print pre-treatment module

Disclosed is a coated print media having a coating layer formed on at least one surface of a media substrate. The coating layer includes a binder and co-milled particles of precipitated calcium carbonate and zeolite. The specific zeolite used is either Zeolite A or Zeolite X, or combination of both. The co-milled particles are produced by milling precipitated calcium carbonate in the presence of zeolite, whereby the co-milled particles take on the form of aggregates.

Coated print media and method for making the same

A lightweight digital printing medium has a basis weight of less than 100 grams per square meter and includes a base paper. The base paper includes a fiber mixture of hardwood pulp and softwood pulp where at least 5% by weight of total fiber in the fiber mixture is bleached, chemi-thermo-mechanical pulp. An internal sizing agent for neutral or alkaline conditions and a wet-strength agent that is a thermosetting resin are mixed with the fiber mixture. An amount of the wet-strength agent added to the fiber mixture is at least 0.1% total dry weight of the base paper.

Lightweight digital printing medium

An inkjet printing media, comprising a coating layered on at least one side of the media, the coating comprising a source of polyvalent ions and a latex binder that forms a coherent film in the presence of the polyvalent ions. A coating comprising calcium 2+ ions (Ca) and a latex binder that forms a coherent film in the presence of the calcium 2+ ions (Ca). A print media coating comprising: a source of polyvalent ions; and a latex binder that forms a coherent film in the presence of the polyvalent ions.

Print media coating

An inkjet recording material that contains a supporting substrate and an image-receiving layer formed on at least one side of the supporting substrate, said layer including at least one inorganic pigment, and a latex binder having the formula (I). Also disclosed herein are the method of making said inkjet recording material and a method for producing printed images that encompasses using said recording material.

Inkjet recording material

An inkjet recording material which comprises an extruded mixture of thermoplastic polymers and non-chlorinated polyolefin materials. The mixture contains from 0.5 wt % to 30 wt % of non-chlorinated polyolefin materials based on the total weight of the polymers constituting the material.

The present invention is drawn to a composition for cast-coating on ink-jet media. The composition includes a liquid vehicle, silica particulates, and an internal release agent. The composition is substantially free of polymeric binder and can improve the glossiness of a porous particulate-coated ink-receiving media by at least 2 gloss units at 20 degrees. The silica particulates can be suspended in the liquid vehicle at about 1-35 wt %, and can have a particle size of less than about 150 nm. The internal release agent can be present at about 0.5-10 wt %.

Gloss-enhancing coating for ink-jet media

A coated medium for inkjet printing, which includes a supporting substrate and a coating layer formed on at least one side thereof. The coating layer includes at least one binder and at least two different inorganic pigments: modified calcium carbonate (MCC) and either precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) or clay.
