A system is configured to manage connectors configured to engage with corresponding connector ports. The system maintains the relative position of the connectors. For example, the connectors can be plugged into, or unplugged from, a network component, while retaining a desired arrangement. In some embodiments, the system includes one or more connector blocks, one or more cable blocks, one or more crossbars, one or more latching mechanisms, or a combination thereof. The connector blocks engage the connector tab of each connector, allowing the connector to be inserted/removed without a user having to engage/disengage each connector tab by hand. The cable blocks maintain a relative position among connectors and cables. The crossbar rigidly couples the connector blocks together and provides a rigid connection to a mounting reference such as, for example, a standard networking rack. The latching mechanisms secure and release the crossbar from the mounting reference.

Methods and systems for managing connector arrays

A novel midplane is shaped with voids through which a dataplane connection is made between components on one side of the midplane and components on the opposite side of the midplane. The voids in the novel midplane offer numerous advantages in the design of network devices, including improved cooling performance, minimizing rack unit space and maximizing interface density, improved signal integrity allowing greater bandwidth through elimination of midplane signaling connections, improved upgradability of orthogonal direct connectors with little or no impact on the midplane or chassis, and proper alignment between the components of the dataplane.

A microprocessor based system, such as a Personal Computer (PC), server, router, word processor or like devices, includes circuit arrangement that monitors the processor for a heartbeat pulse. If the heartbeat pulse is not sensed within a specified time interval the circuit arrangement issues a Soft Reset signal (Unmasked Interrupt) that causes the microprocessor to execute a program that logs the current state of selected entities within the system and a Hard Reset Pulse that resets the system hardware. The log can be used to identify the cause of a problem, whereas the Hard Reset causes the system to reboot and continue normal operation.
