A vehicle brake system has front and rear wheel brakes with each brake including a caliper associated with a rotor. A master cylinder is activated by a brake pedal to which the wheel brakes are connected. An electrically controllable pressure generating device delivers a brake system pressure. A plurality of valves is fluidly coupled between the calipers and the master cylinder. A control unit has a processor circuit to determine if the vehicle is operating under a condition where brake noise can occur and if so, the control unit controls the pressure generating device and certain of the valves to selectively control caliper pressure by supplying pressure or releasing pressure to certain ones of the calipers to reduce the brake noise, while ensuring adequate braking of the vehicle.

System and method for reducing brake noise in a vehicle using electronic brake system

A method of preventing damage to a vehicle or trailer maneuvering through a forward moving curve. The steps of providing a forward moving vehicle having a vehicle length, a vehicle velocity, a vehicle yaw rate, vehicle lateral acceleration and two or more wheels of the vehicle that cause the vehicle to move or turn around a curve along a current forward path of travel. The method involves determining the current path of the vehicle and determining if the current path is unsafe. Alerting the driver that the current path is unsafe and providing a suggest path to correct the current unsafe path of forward travel.

A method of performing a pump check for a brake system comprises determining a first position of a pump with a pump position sensor upon ignition of a vehicle. A pump motor is powered based upon a preselected operating condition. A second position of the pump is determined with the pump position sensor. The first position of the pump and the second position of the pump are compared. The pump motor is confirmed as operational when the second position of the pump is different from the first position of the pump.

Method of using a pump position sensor for an EBS pump check

In an unstable driving situation of a vehicle with an electronically controlled hydraulic brake system with a front/rear split of brake circuits, for instance during a lane change, the inlet valve of one of the two front wheel brakes may be closed for the ESC in order to raise the pressure in only the other wheel brake of the brake circuit. If then the vehicle runs the risk of tipping over, ARP sets in. The vehicle path needs to be readjusted to reduce lateral forces. The ARP demands a pressure build-up in the curve-outer front wheel brake. The corresponding inlet valve will be opened for the ARP to allow a pressure build-up. However, the ESC may still demand a higher pressure on the initially actuated wheel brake to counter understeering. In this event, the inlet valve of the curve-inner wheel brake, which is under high pressure from the ESC intervention, will remain open to allow a cross-flow of brake fluid from the ESC wheel to the ARP wheel.
