A system for imaging an object comprising a surface for receiving the object to be imaged and an imaging device. The imaging device comprises a housing and a fixed focusing optical device mounted to the housing, whereby the fixed focusing optics comprises a lens for focusing light reflected from the object. A plurality of independent linear imaging sensors are positioned in the housing at different distances from the fixed focusing lens so that a face of each of the plurality of independent linear imaging sensors is aligned parallel to the surface. A processor is coupled to the plurality of independent linear imaging sensors for receiving an output signal from each of the plurality of independent linear imaging sensors representative of the reflected light. The lens defines a plane parallel to the surface, and the plurality of independent linear imaging sensors are adapted to receive reflected light from the object.

Large depth of field line scan camera

A system for synchronizing image capture and a light source has a first strobing light emitting diode (LED) array with a plurality of LEDs located to light an illumination area. The LED array has an on cycle during which the LED array is activated and an off cycle during which the LED array is inactivated. The system also has a camera located with a view of the illumination area. The camera has an image exposure that coincides with the on cycle of the strobing LED array.

Method of low intensity lighting for high speed image capture

A scanner for reading barcode symbologies having a focusing illuminating source. The scanner uses a coherent light source for illuminating the coded symbol during a scan and a detector for collecting the reflected light energy from the coded symbol. Both the illuminating and collecting devices include lenses which are in variable spacial relationship with each other. The scanner varies the relationship between the light source and associated focusing lens to provide the narrowest focused beam at the barcode location.

An improved laser diode assembly includes a laser diode unit which is mounted directly on a compact thermoelectric cooler, which is mounted on a heat sink. A thermally insulating gasket, mounted around the thermoelectric cooler, seals the thermoelectric cooler from the ambient environment, thereby preventing condensation from forming on the cold face of the thermoelectric cooler. A bushing concentrically positions the laser diode unit in the proper optical alignment with respect to the optical assembly, while thermally and electrically insulating the laser diode. A thermally conductive gasket, mounted around the circumference of the laser diode window, returns heat from the heat sink to the window to prevent condensation from forming on the window. The laser diode is the only component cooled by the thermoelectric cooler. Since a portion of the heat transferred by the thermoelectric cooler is utilized to warm the laser diode window, a separate heating element is not required. This increases the overall efficiency of the laser diode assembly.
