A personal base station (PBS) having wireless video capability. The PBS authenticates a mobile device within range for cellular services, and authenticates the user for a level of service for cable television. The PBS operates in accordance with a dual-purpose subscriber identity system (SIS) includes a subscriber mobile identity component (SMIC) and a video security component (VSC) such that the cellular and television services can be authenticated. Mobile devices incorporating the disclosed innovations, as well as the PBS, can access video content from a cable television provider through any available broadband link, regardless of the mobile device's physical location.

There is provided a system and method for real-time media presentation using metadata clips. There is provided a media device for providing one or more media files for a display, the media device including a memory and a processor. The memory includes a plurality of metadata clips, wherein each of the plurality of metadata clips references a referenced source media from the media files, a referenced start position, and a referenced end position. The processor can determine a playlist including some of the plurality of metadata clips for streaming segments of media files as defined by their referenced start and end positions. Flexible behaviors can also be added to enhance playback logic or to enforce access restrictions, and metadata clips and playlists may also be user generated.

The wireless network provides current conditions or events to the wireless communication device. Disclosed embodiments include a method for automatically managing wireless device actions based on network provider-controlled financial conditions, such as the current rate (e.g., cents/minute) for a voice or data communication. In one embodiment, the user configures preferences indicating how the device should behave based on certain financial conditions. The device and the provider communicate transparently to the user to monitor current financial conditions and take actions automatically based on the user preferences. The provider communicates current financial conditions, and the device takes actions according to the user preferences, including executing downloaded applications on the device.
