A liner () and closure () are provided for being initially assembled and subsequently installed on a container () of a product to create a package (A). The liner () is provided for being disposed between, and sealed to, the container () and the closure () mounted thereon. The liner () includes a metallic substrate layer () that is an aluminum alloy and that is located between first and second heat-sealable layers (), respectively. The liner () has a through hole (), and the metallic substrate layer () has a laterally inward edge surface () that is exposed at the through hole ().

A closure () is provided to selectively permit or restrict communication between the exterior and the interior of a system that has an opening between the exterior and interior. The closure () includes a closure body () that defines an access passage () and a membrane () that initially occludes the access passage (). The connection of the membrane () to the body () is defined by a tearable portion () of material that defines a tear path along which the material can be torn. The tear path has; (A) a first separation path () where separation of the membrane () from the body () initially originates; and (B) a second separation path () where separation of the membrane () from the body () terminates. The second separation path () has a generally tapered configuration.

A closure (GA,GB) is provided for a system with an opening. The closure (A,B) has a body (A,B) with an outer end (B) and a through passage (GB) for communicating with the system opening. The body (A,B) has a membrane (B) mitially occluding the through passage (B). The closure (A,B) has a lid (A.B) to accommodate movement relative to the body (A,B) between a closed position restricting access to the through passage (B) and an open position permitting greater access to the through passage (B). The body (A,B) thither has a separation member (GB) that can be engaged by a user to separate at least a part of the membrane (B) from the body (A.B). The separation member (B) extends away from the membrane (B) and has a deployed configuration wherein the separation member (B) projects outwardly beyond the body outer end (B) when the lid (A,B) is in the open position. The separation member (B) further has the capability for assuming a stored configuration with the separation member (B) engaged by the lid (A,B) with the lid (A,B) in the closed position. Resiliency of the separation member (B) urges the separation member (B) {acute over (&#x3b9;)}{umlaut over (&#x3b9;)}o&#x3b9;&#x3b7; the stored configuration to the deployed configuration when the lid (A,B) is moved from the closed position to the open position.

A dispensing closure system is provided for a container that has an opening to the container interior. The preferred embodiment of the system includes a closure having a closure body for extending from the container at the container opening and a lid hingedly attached to the closure body. The closure body has a dispensing spout, and the lid includes a hollow spud for entering the spout. A spud rim can be provided on the spud, extending inwardly towards the hollow interior of the spud. A lid rim can additionally or alternatively be provided on the inside surface of the lid, positioned within the hollow interior of the spud.

A dispensing closure system is provided with two or more dispensing apertures and two or more pivotable lids. Each lid can be selectively opened and retained in a fully opened orientation. In a preferred form of the invention, the lids are incorporated in a top that is snap-fitted into a closure body which defines the dispensing apertures.

A process is provided for minimizing moisture accumulation in a product package that is sprayed with a cool water shower. The product is placed in a container, and a closure is installed on a container. The product is heated before it is placed in the container or during its placement in the container, or after it is placed in the container, or while the closure is being installed on the container, or after the closure has been installed on the container. The internal atmosphere within the closed closure is allowed to expand from the heat and to vent through a vent channel. The package is cooled with a cooling water shower, and the vent channel minimizes the transient pressure differential so as to minimize the amount of water infiltration into the closure.

A load platform has telescoping feet which provide a variable height opening for insertion of material handling equipment forks. The pallet has a deck having a top and a bottom, and a number of legs which are formed extending downwardly from the deck. Feet connected by stringers are slidably connected to the legs providing a variable height opening defined by the deck bottom, stringer, and adjacent legs and feet.
