Methods for associating a first and a second device. Each device broadcasts an identity, the first device stores new identities and counts them. Upon user instruction and if there just one new identity, the first device sends a request for association to the second device that acknowledges this. The second device then sends, upon user instruction, a confirmation to the first device that verifies that the confirmation was sent by the second device and acknowledges this. The method is particularly suitable for use on devices that are unable to display identities of other devices.

Methods and a device for associating a first device with a second device

A method for acquisition of a software application stored on a software application distribution unit and intended to be supplied to a user computer unit is disclosed wherein, the user computer unit communicates an item of identification information identifying the software application to be acquired to an electronic security module connected to the user computer unit. The module generates, using a secret and identification information, an item of user information and transmits it with the identification information to the unit. The unit protects with the user information the software application identified by the identification information and the protected software application is transmitted to the user computer unit. Thus, the software application is protected with an item of information from the electronic security module of the user. The protected software application then has its protection removed on an electronic security unit equipped with an electronic security module.

Method for acquisition of software applications

A method and device for device association. A user enters login and password on a first device that searches for reachable devices. The first device asks the reachable devices if they know the login, preferably by sending a salted hash of the login. The devices that know the login respond positively and the first device lists the responding devices. The first device then successively performs Secure Remote Authentication (SRP) with each device on the list until an authentication succeeds or there are no further devices on the list. The SRP authentication makes sure that the first device knows the login and that the other device knows a password verifier without transmitting any knowledge that allows recuperation of this info by an eavesdropper. The authenticated devices then establish a secure channel over which a community secret key is transferred, and the first device also calculates and stores the password verifier.

The invention relates to a method of creation of a new communication network by a wireless terminal. The wireless terminal is initially part of an existing centralized network that includes an access point able to control the association of wireless terminals to its network. In the event of disassociation of the terminal from the network, the method makes provision to initiate a procedure for creating a new network including a declaration of the terminal as access point of the new network, where the operating parameters of the new network are such that communications on the new network do not interfere with the existing network.

The method comprises the steps of, representing the remote device on the cluster through the first wireless device and representing the devices of the cluster to the remote device through the second wireless device, such that the remote device and the devices of the cluster function as if these devices were part of a single IEEE1394 bus.

A method for registering a device in a wireless network comprising a central controller. The method includes the step of asking a user whether he wants to install a new network or install a device on the network. In the case of installing a new network, the user enters a PIN code, an authentication key of the new network is generated and the device becomes the central controller. In the case of installing the device on an existing network, the user enters a PIN code, and upon authorization, receives an authentication key of the network for use in authenticating procedures with the central controller.

A device and method for reserving isochronous resources on a wireless network for connection set-up, where the wireless network includes an isochronous resource manager. The device and method include identifying a talker device and a listener device by a connection controller; acquiring, by the isochronous resource managers, a list of devices to be part of the connection; determining bandwidth required for connecting the talker device and the listener device by the isochronous resource manager, as a function of the list of devices to be part of the connection; and setting-up a multicast group including the talker device and the listener device if the bandwidth is available.

Method for isochronous resource management in a network based on hiperlan 2 technology

A method for reserving an isochronous resource over a link between a first bus and a second bus, the link including a first interface device connected to the first bus and a second interface device connected to the second bus. The reservation of the resources over the link is transparent to the devices connected to the busses. The method includes, at the level of the interface devices, intercepting the connection set up messages sent by the devices connected to the busses, checking whether a source device and a sink device for which the set-up message has been intercepted are on different busses, and in the affirmative, reserving resources for the connection over the link.

Method of reserving isochronous resources in a network comprising a wireless link

The invention concerns methods for testing a connection either between a central controller of a communication network and a terminal of the network, or between two terminals of the network. In both cases, a terminal sends test pattern data which is to be echoed back by another device over the connection to be tested. In certain circumstances, a terminal may register twice with the central controller, in order to be able to establish the required test connection without disturbing existing connections. The invention also concerns devices for implementing the methods. The invention can be used in a Hiperlan 2 network.
