A method of checking the authenticity of the content of a non-volatile memory of an electronic device including a microcontroller and an embedded secure element includes starting the microcontroller with instructions stored in a first non-reprogrammable memory area associated with the microcontroller, starting the secure element, executing, with the secure element, a signature verification on the content of a second reprogrammable non-volatile memory area associated with the microcontroller, and interrupting the microcontroller power supply if the signature is not verified.

Controlled starting of an electronic circuit

A method of checking the authenticity of the content of a non-volatile memory of an electronic device including a microcontroller and an embedded secure element includes starting the microcontroller with instructions stored in a first non-reprogrammable memory area associated with the microcontroller, starting the secure element, executing, with the secure element, a signature verification on the content of a second reprogrammable non-volatile memory area associated with the microcontroller, and if the signature is verified, using the secure element to send the first key to the microcontroller.

Secure starting of an electronic circuit

A method and apparatus for performing a low-power presence check are provided. In the method and apparatus, a controller detects a presence of a tag by at least causing the antenna to generate a magnetic field over a first time period for detecting the tag, measuring an antenna voltage over a second time period, causing the antenna to cease generating a magnetic field over a third time period longer than the first time period and comparing the antenna voltage to an antenna reference voltage to determine whether the tag is present. The controller detects the presence of the tag in response to receiving a command from a host device for performing the low-power presence check. The command may be a one-time command for every presence check stage or a command that is repeatedly received each time the controller detects the presence of the tag.

Near-field communications low-power presence check

A method and near field communications (NFC) system for sensing at least one of an environmental condition or a composition of media in a proximity of the NFC system are provided. In the method and system, a first antenna irradiates an electromagnetic field during a sensor mode. A second antenna detects the electromagnetic field and outputs a voltage representative of the detected electromagnetic field. An NFC controller receives a signal representative of the voltage. The NFC controller determines at least one of the environmental condition or the composition of media based on an association stored in memory between the voltage and the at least one of the environmental condition or the composition of media.

Environmental condition and media composition sensing using near-field communications

A processing device of an NFC device receives a request, initiated by a first application loaded in a memory of the NFC device, to modify one or more parameters of an NFC routing table of an NFC router of the NFC device. The NFC routing table has parameters indicating the devices to which NFC messages are to be routed. The processing device retrieves a first identifier associated with the application and transmits the first identifier to the NFC router. The NFC router, based on the first identifier, verifies whether or not the application is authorized to modify the routing table.
