An apparatus for effecting non-contact linear door displacement comprising a tubular motor formed of a stator () formed from a plurality of magnets () arranged along a linear axis (), and at least one thrust block () each formed of at least one electrically conductive coil encircling the stator () at a distance sufficient to facilitate electro-mechanical interaction between the plurality of coils and the stator (), at least one door () attached to at least one of the plurality of thrust blocks () via a hanger () and the at least one door () capable of a movement in the direction of the linear axis (), a rolling component () to enable movement of the hanger () in the direction of the linear axis (), and a control mechanism () for sensing the position of each of the at least one door () and issuing an electrical control signal to each of the plurality of thrust blocks () so as to affect the movement of the at least one door ().

Tubular linear synchronous motor control for elevator doors

An elevator system includes an elevator cab having doors that are movable between open and closed positions. A rail is mounted to the cab. At least one roller defines an axis of rotation and is mounted for movement along the rail. The roller is operably connected to the doors to move the doors between open and closed positions. A motor assembly is mounted for movement with the roller along the rail and has an output for providing a rotational driving force to the roller. In one embodiment, the motor drives a planetary drive assembly which drives the roller along the rail and in another embodiment the motor drives a worm gear assembly which drives the roller. Alternatively, a tree-axis torque motor generates a magnetic field that is non-perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the roller, which causes the roller to be driven along the rail.

An elevator call button transmits infrared radiation into the space adjacent an elevator, and a call request is recognized by infrared radiation reflected from a potential passenger to an infrared receiver. Thus not only is contact with the button not required, the use of a finger or like-sized object is not required in order to place a call.

An elevator call button senses the position of a push button by means of a photoreflective sensor, thereby eliminating the need for a mechanical switch.

An apparatus for determining if an elevator car is level with respect to a landing in a hoistway comprises a transceiver for transmitting a signal, a first reflector having a varying reflectance between a maximum reflectance end and a minimum reflectance end, a second reflector having a varying reflectance between a maximum reflectance end and a minimum reflectance end, and a processor. The first reflector transmits a first reflected signal in response to the signal transmitted by the transceiver and the second reflector transmits a second reflected signal in response to the signal transmitted by the transceiver. The first reflector and the second reflector are adjacently aligned such that the maximum reflectance end of the first reflector is adjacent to the minimum reflectance end of the second reflector, and the minimum reflectance end of the first reflector is adjacent to the maximum reflectance end of the second reflector. The processor determines if the elevator car is level with respect to the landing in response to the first and second reflected signals.

Differential reflectometery for position reference in an elevator system

The invention comprises an elevator electrical component having a front plate that has no visible fasteners, the component being removable by a key. The elevator component has a housing attached to a face plate, a number of flexible arms attached to and integral with the housing, the arm(s) causing the housing to interfere with an opening in the elevator or the landing upon insertion or removal of the housing from the opening, the arm being movable in two directions to avoid interference with the opening upon insertion or removal of the housing from the opening, a visually inconspicuous accessway in the face plate for allowing access to the arm, and a key for extending through the accessway and simultaneously moving the arm or arms in both directions to allow the component to be removed from the opening without interference by the arm(s). The component may include a shaped projection that causes the housing to be specially manipulated to remove the housing from the opening even after usage of the key. The component may also include an obstruction to prevent the arm or arms from not interfering with the opening unless the key is used.
