The invention relates to a composite target in the form of a bar made of ceramic powders and designed to be evaporated under an electron beam, the target comprising zirconia and at least one zirconia stabilizer. In characteristic manner, said target is wherein said zirconia stabilizer is at a molar content lying in the range 2% to 30% and wherein said zirconia is formed by more than 90% of a monoclinic phase. The invention is applicable to fabricating a ceramic thermal barrier of low thermal conductivity and high thermomechanical strength formed by evaporation under an electron beam.

The invention concerns an oxide ion conductive ceramic membrane, characterized in that it comprises a non-null finite volume with non-null total thickness E, comprising, a dense layer (CD) of a solid electrolyte, a so-called bonding layer (CA), of mixed conductive porous cathode (EP) and porous anode (EP'), a cathode current collector (CC) and an anode current collector (CC&#x2032;), a coating porous layer (ER), and a coating porous layer (ER&#x2032;), and characterized in that the volume E of said membrane, is equal to the sum of the thickness of said elements. The membrane is used for separating oxygen from air or from a gas mixture containing same and in particular for producing ultra-pure oxygen under high pressure in a closed chamber.

A composite target is placed in a chamber. The target is in the form of a bar made of ceramic powder and it presents composition that is not uniform in the longitudinal direction. At least one substrate is introduced into the chamber in order to have formed thereon a ceramic coating with a composition gradient. The top face of the bar is swept by an electron beam so as to melt the bar material at its top face and form a vapor cloud in the chamber under low pressure. A bar is used that presents a plurality of superposed layers of different compositions, with the composition within each layer being uniform over the entire cross-section of the bar. Each layer of the bar comprises zirconia and at least one oxide selected from the oxides of nickel, cobalt, iron, yttrium, hafnium, cerium, lanthanum, tantalum, niobium, scandium, samarium, gadolinium, dysprosium, ytterbium, and aluminum.

Method of forming a ceramic coating on a substrate by electron-beam physical vapor deposition

Capacitive probe measuring the level, in a vessel and with high precision, of the interface between a conducting fluid (F) and a non-conducting fluid (a gas or oil for example), suited to work under high pressure and high temperature conditions. The probe comprises a preferably tubular insulating layer () made of a dielectric heat-resisting material (a metal oxide such as zirconia or alumina) baked at a high temperature, with a first face in contact with conducting fluid (Fl) and an opposite face in contact with a second electrode (), consisting for example of a coating or of a layer made of a fusible alloy deposited on the opposite face of insulant (), selected according to the temperature range within which the capacitive probe is intended to work, or possibly of an added tube. Alloys based on zinc, tin, copper, etc, can for example be used. A second capacitor of the same type used for temperature compensation of the first one can be placed within the tubular insulating layer. Its capacitance is for example of the order of 1 nF. The probe can be applied in laboratory apparatuses working under high pressure and high temperature conditions, notably in petrophysical test cells.
