The present invention relates to a regenerated cellulose-based cellular material with a long-term resistance to microorganisms&mdash;bacteria and/or fungi&mdash;and to a process for its preparation. Said material, which is of the sponge or sponge-cloth type, contains in its cellulosic bulk an effective amount of 2,4,4&prime;-trichloro-2&prime;-hydroxydiphenyl ether (triclosan) which is distributed and not enclosed in a matrix. At least one latex and advantageously at least one cationic compound are used together with said triclosan.

A first object of the present invention is constituted by regenerated cellulose based materials, in particular those selected from cellular cellulose materials, fibers, filaments, sheets, textiles and non-woven materials. They contain an effective quantity of at least one chemical agent which improves the resistance of the material to bleach; the chemical agent containing in its structure at least one nitrogen atom .alpha. to a carbon atom and being fixed by at least one covalent bond to the cellulose lattice and/or being trapped in said lattice. Further objects are constituted by the use of chemical agents to improve the resistance to bleach of regenerated cellulose based materials, in particular sponges, and a process for the preparation of these materials.

The present invention relates to a cellular cellulosic material containing a biocide agent and to a process for preparing same. Characteristically, matrix type microparticles, containing at least one biocide agent, are distributed in the network of cellulose of said material, ensuring therein, in the presence of moisture or water, a controlled release of the biocide agent or agents.
