The disclosed and claimed subject matter provides precursors having at least one tethered cyclopentadienyl ligand ('Cp ligand'), at least one amidinate ligand (“Ad ligand”) and a lanthanide and/or lanthanide-like transition metal (“M”) of the general formulae (i) (Cp ligand)-M-(Ad ligand) or (ii) (Cp ligand)-M-(Ad ligand).

The present invention relates to a liquid crystalline medium comprising dichroitic dyes made of benzothiadiazoles and related extended heterocyclic derivatives, the use of said medium for optical, electro-optical and electronic purposes, in particular in devices for regulating the passage of radiation energy from an outside space into an inside space, for example in windows. The invention further relates to devices containing the liquid crystalline medium according to the invention. Some new dichroitic dyes are disclosed.

Liquid crystalline medium

The present invention relates to compositions comprising a combination of benzothiadiazole and thiadiazoloquinoxaline derivatives, to liquid-crystalline media containing the compositions, and to the use of the compositions and the media in optical, electronic and electro-optical devices, in particular in devices for regulating the passage of energy from an outside space into an inside space, for example in switchable windows.
