A method is provided for operating an electro-optic observation device, in particular a thermal imaging device, which includes an electronic viewfinder, a proximity sensor and a position sensor. According to the method, a predefined distance range in front of the viewfinder is monitored for a presence of a user with the proximity sensor, a position variable which is characteristic of the orientation of the observation device is captured with the position sensor, information concerning a current use situation of the observation device is derived from the presence of the user within the distance range and/or the position variable, and at least one specific function of the observation device that influences an image display is activated or at least enabled depending on the information concerning the current use situation.

An electro-optic observation device, in particular a thermal imaging device, is provided. The electro-optic observation device includes a handheld device housing, a lens group arranged in the device housing on the entrance side, an image capture unit arranged in the device housing on the image side with respect to the lens group, an image display unit arranged in the device housing, an eyepiece arranged on the exit side with respect to the image display unit, and also a control device configured to control at least the image display unit depending on user-specifically variable parameters. In addition, the electro-optic observation device includes, as input means for varying the parameters, a rotary wheel accessible on the device housing for access by a user.

The disclosure relates to a method for setting and visualizing parameters of an objective lens of a camera, in particular for focusing on a moving object, and to a system for per-forming the method. The camera is, for example, embodied as a film camera, in particular as a film camera used in cinematography. The method includes the following steps: calcu-lating a relative position and an alignment of a depth of field of the objective lens in the 3D space, observing the 3D space and/or the object with an AR display and observation de-vice, displaying the relative position and the alignment of the depth of field of the objective lens as an image in the AR display and observation device and/or displaying a focal plane as an image in the AR display and observation device, and setting the objective lens to ob-tain a desired depth of field of the objective lens.
