A method of operating a pneumatic transport system in a process line of a spinning mill, wherein fiber flocks are transported through ducts by means fo airflows generated by fans and these airflows can be influenced by units such as fans, adjustable flats, leakage air openings and induction boxes. In critical regions the respectively prevailing static pressure is measured by means of pressure sensors and, in so far as this pressure lies outside of a predetermined desired range a correction is first made at one of the units which contributes to determining this pressure in the sense of changing the pressure into the desired range or in the direction towards the desired range. The effect of this change in other critical regions effected thereby is then determined with reference to the pressure measured there and a change is subsequently effected of a further unit responsible for the pressure in these regions. The above process steps are repeated in the sense of an iterative adaptation to the desired ranges, i.e. until the measured pressures lie in the respectively provided desired ranges.

Transport air control

A method and an apparatus for operating a bale opening machine having an opening member, wherein the height profile of a row of bales is determined by at least one sensor directed towards the bale surface and is used to control the position of the opening member during the subsequent bale opening. The received signal of the sensor, which is preferably an optical or acoustical sensor or a sensor which operates with radar waves, is processed to obtain a signal corresponding to the hardness of the bales. In addition, the in-feed and, optionally, the penetration of the opening member, is controlled or regulated in accordance with the hardness signal. Various slip-free length measuring devices serve to determine the longitudinal position of the opening member along the row of bales.

Distance of travel measuring device for use with a bale opening machine

A method and an apparatus for operating a bale opening machine having an opening member, wherein the height profile of a row of bales is determined by at least one sensor directed towards the bale surface and is used to control the position of the opening member during the subsequent bale opening. Method and apparatus for operating a bale opening machine

The fiber processing plant has a pneumatic flock feed system which is operated in dependence on an operating parameter which, in turn, is dependent upon the number of fiber processing machines which are operating at a given time. In one embodiment, a meter is disposed in a feed duct of the flock feed system between a fan and a first of the fiber processing machines in order to sense the static pressure therein. The meter is used to sense a difference in pressure caused by one or more fiber processing machines becoming inoperative so as to cause a switching on or off of the fiber supply to the feed duct.

Pneumatic flock feed system for supplying multiple cards and/or staple

In order to extract fiber flocks from individual textile fiber bale groups with a substantially constant extraction power independently of density variation distribution over the bale height, the individual bale groups are subdivided into a plurality of height zones exhibiting different densities of fiber material. Then, an extracting member provided with a rotating extraction head is moved through the upper zone with a relatively large penetration depth, while the penetration depth is gradually reduced during the movement of the extracting member through the next lower zone until the penetration depth desired for the next following lower zone is reached, from which point this penetration depth is maintained until reaching the lowermost zone during the movement through which the penetration depth is again gradually increased until the last layer to be extracted is reached. A control system for performing the above method includes a microprocessor which stores the inputted desired number of passes and penetration depths for the definition of the zones, and controls the movement of the extraction member accordingly.
