An electronic device is provided in which a dedicated area of the device substrate is patterned to form a resistive track so that it can be contacted by a readout arrangement. The resistive track is used to encode information. The information is provided to a driver which can then derive information about the type of device being driven. The driver can thus be controlled accordingly.

Electronic device, device driver, and driving method

A device and associated PCB structure are provided in which a dedicated area of the device substrate is patterned, so that it can be contacted by a readout arrangement of the PCB. The pattern comprises an arrangement of contact regions. Interconnections and open circuits are used to encode information. A dotted contact area of the PCB is used to probe the pattern, and relay this to a driver which can then derive information about the type of device being driven. The driver can thus be controlled accordingly.

The invention relates to a light-emitting device like an OLED comprising a light emission region between an anode () and a cathode (). An alternating arrangement () of anode pads () for electrically connecting the anode and cathode pads () for electrically connecting the cathode and an encapsulation () are configured such that the anode and cathode pads are electrically connectable by straight anode and cathode electrical connectors () through openings () of the encapsulation. The alternating arrangement of the anode and cathode pads can lead to a more homogenous electrical field between the anode and the cathode and therefore allows for an improved degree of homogeneity of light emission. More, since the alternating arrangement of the anode and cathode pads is connectable by corresponding straight connectors, the contacting of the pads can be performed technically relatively easily.

The invention relates to a fabrication apparatus for fabricating a patterned layer () on a substrate (). Protective material () is applied in second regions on the substrate () and liquid layer material () is then printed in first regions being different to the second regions on the substrate (). The layer material () is dried by heating the layer material () to a drying temperature being smaller than a melting temperature of the protective material (), before removing the protective material () from the substrate () by using a removing temperature being larger than the melting temperature of the protective material (). A patterned layer () can therefore be produced, without using, for example, a costly photolithography process, and because of the use of the protective material () the layer material () is present in the desired first regions only and not in the second regions. This improves the quality of the patterned layer, which may be used for producing an OLED.

Fabrication apparatus for fabricating a patterned layer

The invention relates to a fabrication apparatus for fabricating a layer structure comprising at least a patterned first layer on a substrate. A layer structure () with an unpatterned first layer is provided on the substrate. A protective material application unit () applies protective material at least on parts of the provided layer structure for protecting at least the parts of the provided layer structure (), an ablation unit () ablates the unpatterned first layer through the protective material such that the patterned first layer is generated, and the protective material removing unit () removes the protective material (). This allows fabricating a layer structure for, for example, an OLED without necessarily using a technically complex and costly photolithography process. Moreover, ablation debris can be removed with removing the protective material, thereby reducing the probability of unwanted effects like unwanted shortcuts in the OLED caused by unwanted debris.

Fabrication apparatus for fabricating a layer structure

The invention relates to a method enabling to apply cheap manufacturing techniques for producing reliable and robust organic thin film device (EL) comprising the steps of providing (P) a transparent substrate () at least partly covered with a first layer stack comprising at least one transparent layer (), preferably an electrically conductive layer, and a pattern of first and second opaque conductive areas () deposited on top of the transparent layer (), depositing (D) a photoresist layer () made of an electrically insulating photoresist resist material on top of the first layer stack at least fully covering the second opaque conductive areas (), illuminating (IL) the photoresist layer () through the transparent substrate () with light () of a suitable wavelength to make the photoresist material soluble in the areas () of the photoresist layer () having no opaque conductive areas () underneath, removing (R) the soluble areas () of the photoresist layer (), heating (B) the areas () of the photoresist layer () remaining on top of at least the second opaque conductive areas () to re-flow the photoresist layer () to cover the edges (E) of the second opaque conductive areas () in contact to the transparent layer (), and hardening (H) the remaining areas () of the photoresist layer (). The invention further relates to a conductive component (CC) for use in these organic thin film devices (EL) and to the organic thin film devices (EL) itself.

Self-aligned coverage of opaque conductive areas

A light emitting device and a method for manufacturing the light emitting device are disclosed. In one example, the light emitting device includes a transparent substrate, partially transparent an anode layer or layer assembly arranged on said substrate, a light emitting layer arranged on said anode layer, and a transparent cathode layer arranged on said light emitting layer, wherein said anode layer or layer assembly includes a first surface facing said transparent substrate and a second surface facing said light emitting layer and is positioned opposite to said first surface, said first surface includes a transparent conductive material, said second surface includes first and second domains, said first domains are conductive and non-transparent, said second domains are transparent and electrically isolating, and said first domains are in direct contact with said light emitting layer and are arranged to allow electrical contact between said first surface and said light emitting layer.
