The application relates to a hydrocephalus valve for draining CSF from the ventricle systems of patients. The valve has a housing with a housing interior and at least one first passage for admission and/or discharge. The valve has at least one body provided in the housing interior. The body is designed to move in at least one direction. At least one adjusting unit is provided. The application aims to improve tried-and-tested existing valves. To achieve this, the adjusting unit is designed to adjust at least one drainage rate in the passage, and to allow the drainage rate to be adjusted between 1 ml per hour and 1000 ml per hour at a pressure at the hydrocephalus valve of 20 cm water column, in order to slow or accelerate, by means of this adjustment, a change in pressure in the ventricle system that results from the drainage.

Flow reducer

A method for gripping the pericardium uses a device with an outer part and an inner part. The device is pushed through an incision towards the pericardium until an end of the device touches the pericardium or the heart or a layer arranged on the heart. Subsequently, the inner part is moved until at least one outer part end and/or an inner part end is arranged on the pericardium. The device for gripping the pericardium has an inner tube and an outer tube. The inner tube and the outer tube have end surfaces with different surface structures.

Pericardial gripper and method of implanting a temporary cardiac assist system

A hydrocephalus shunt arrangement for draining cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in a patient includes a ventricle catheter, a first drainage line, a control valve, a second drainage line, and an intracranial device. The ventricle catheter is inserted into a ventricle space of the brain of a patient. The first drainage line is connected to the ventricle catheter. The control valve is connected to the first drainage line and controls the drainage of CSF from the cranium of the patient through the second drainage line into a drainage area inside an abdominal cavity of the patient. The intracranial device is implanted under the skin of the patient in or at the cranium and connected to the ventricle catheter or the control valve. The intracranial device includes a corrugated metal membrane covering a chamber disposed within a rigid housing. The control valve produces a desired, controlled, drainage of excess CSF.

Hydrocephalus shunt arrangement and components thereof for draining cerebrospinal fluid in a patient having hydrocephalus

An adjustable hydrocephalus valve is used for pressure equalization of the cerebrospinal fluid in the cranium of a hydrocephalus patient. The adjustable hydrocephalus valve is implantable in a patient. The valve controls drainage of excess cerebrospinal fluid. The valve has an inlet, an outlet, and a housing through which cerebrospinal fluid flows between the inlet and the outlet. The valve also has a spring, an adjusting mechanism, and at least one rotatable part, which are disposed in the housing.

Adjustable hydrocephalus valve

An adjustable hydrocephalus valve for pressure equalization of the cerebrospinal fluid in the cranium of a hydrocephalus patient. The valve is adjustable to change the opening and closing pressure of the valve. The valve housing has a cover portion that can be depressed to thereby disengage a locking device to permit adjustment of the valve. The cover portion bulges outwardly, but bulges inwardly when depressed. The cover portion snaps when moved between the outward bulge and the inward bulge to thereby generate an audio and/or visual signal indicating that the cover portion has been switched from the outward bulge to the inward bulge, and vice versa.

Implantable hydrocephalus shunt system

To assure, in the case of an implantable device for determining intracranial pressures, the biocompatibility of the implant in the long term, wherein a pressure measuring device is used, which is operatively connected to a sensor for a telemetric measured value transfer, it is proposed that the pressure measuring device is a microchip, that the microchip is located in a rigid housing, and that the pressure transfer from the outside inwards occurs through a very thin biocompatible membrane, the pressure-dependent movement of which acts on the pressure measuring device via a transfer medium.

An adjustable hydrocephalus valve comprising a mechanical brake. The brake can be decoupled by pressing the valve housing percutaneously and allows in this state to adjust the opening characteristics of the valve by rotating externally disposed magnets. In order to detect the adjusted pressure or in order to adjust the pressure, specific adjustment or measuring pin principles are presented which simplify and at the same time improve the respective functions of measuring and adjusting.

Method of treating a patient with hydrocephalus and apparatus therefor

The present invention relates to a valve having a base body with a passage opening, a movable valve member for closing and opening the passage opening and an actuating mechanism for moving the valve member in order to open the passage opening. The actuating mechanism has at least two elements made from a shape memory alloy which are secured to the base body or a carrier body connected thereto, and can be alternately shortened in the event of the temperature rising above a threshold temperature and are connected to the valve member in such a way that the valve member can be moved from a position on the passage opening into a position alongside the passage opening when one element is shortened on one side and can be moved back into the position on the passage opening when the other element is shortened on one side.

Valve with compact actuating mechanism

In order to allow improved adaptation to the situation existing in a patient in the case of a hydrocephalus valve with an electric actuating system comprising a control system opening and closing the hydrocephalus valve, it is proposed that the control system is a time control system.
