It is disclosed a security element comprising a substantially flat substrate including first and second areas, wherein the first area displays a first motif and generates a first color movement effect to be seen in the first motif while the substrate gets tilted over a first angular tilting range, the second area displays a second motif and generates a second color effect to be seen in the second motif and within a second angular tilting range, the first and second angular tilting ranges are different, and the first area comprises either a micro-mirror structure or a print of magnetically oriented pigments and the second area comprises the other one of the micro-mirror structure and the print of magnetically oriented pigments.

Security element

Proposed is a security element, preferably in the form of a security stripe, security thread, or a security patch, comprising a machine-readable code and an optically variable security feature, which has a visual appearance that depends on the viewing angle. The machine-readable code is a magnetic encoding, which is produced by printing at least one opaque magnetic printing ink containing magnetic pigments, with the magnetic printing ink being incorporated or applied in at least one defined code region such that the visual appearance of the optically variable security feature is determined at least in part by the at least one incorporated or applied magnetic printing ink. The optically variable security feature comprises a micro-optical micro-lens arrangement, which covers the at least one code region in which the at least one magnetic printing ink has been incorporated or applied.

Application device

A value and safety document comprises a substrate having a front side and a back side. An ink layer is applied to the front or back sides of the substrate. A first motif is incorporated into the ink layer, and is combined with a second motif. The second motif is arranged on the same side of the substrate as the first motif. The second motif is configured in the form of an emboss structure comprising a plurality of raised emboss elements having areas of different orientation. The emboss structure forms the second motif having a second tilt or motion effect, by different groups of emboss elements, having different characteristic parameters, reflecting incident light in different spatial areas. The emboss elements have respectively a lateral dimension of less than 30 &#x3bc;m and a height of less than 10 &#x3bc;m. The first motif is adapted at least partially to the second motif.

Security element with effect pigments and an embossing structure and method for the production thereof

A method or apparatus for examining a security element of a value document involves at least one optical property of the security element influenceable by a magnetic field. The value document is transported through a magnetic field which is inhomogeneous transversely to the transport direction and/or is changed time-dependently. An image of at least one portion of the value document having the security element is captured and image data describing the image are formed. The optical properties of the security element are influenced by the magnetic field, and the image data is checked whether they have a location dependence transverse to the transport direction corresponding to the location dependence of the magnetic field and/or have a location dependence in the transport direction corresponding to the time dependence of the magnetic field.
