Methods and apparatus are disclosed for calibrating a field-commutated motor (,) when under load, wherein initializing the motor (,) refers to relating data representative of the angle of the rotor in an uncalibrated coordinate system to a coordinate system having a known relationship to the excitation coils (,), typically mounted with the stator (,). The angular data can then be used for exciting the excitation coils (,) in the proper sequence and with the proper timing to obtain the desired speed, torque, direction or rotation, etc. of the motor (,). Test voltages having a known orientation are applied to one of the stator and the rotor, (whichever mounts the excitation coils (,)), and the angle of the rotor produced by the application of each of the test voltages noted. An equation is disclosed for determining an error angle between the uncalibrated and the known coordinate system as a function of the angles of the rotor produced by application of the test voltages. Apparatus for practicing the invention can include a processor (,), a power supply (,), and user input element (,) and a voltage and/or current sensor (,). The processor (,) can include appropriate means for executing the disclosed method steps.

Method and apparatus for initialization and operation of field-commutated motors and machines incorporating field-commutated motors

Each torque-producing phase current of a multi-phase motor is passed through a filter which includes an R/C shunt to ground and a series, current-compensated choke. Each choke has a winding in series with each phase so that the net current generated by phase currents in the windings is zero, and therefore the net flux generated by phase currents in the highly permeable core of the choke is zero at all times. However, there is significant inductive reactance created by the non-counterbalanced motor leakage currents, which prevent leakage currents from circulating through the motor. Thus, torque-producing motor currents can accurately be measured for feedback, without pollution from leakage currents. LEM current transducers allow use of small, proportional currents in the measuring and suppress inter-phase coupling.

A method of adjusting an elevator speed comprising the steps of determining a desired creep period, determining an actual creep period, determining a difference between the desired creep period and the actual creep period, determining a deceleration time for minimizing the difference between the desired creep period and the actual creep period, and adjusting the elevator speed in response to the deceleration time.

A load compensation calibration method for an elevator controller includes the steps of moving an elevator car in a first direction, the first direction a first creep speed region; determining the time to travel a given distance; during the first run; determining a first actual creep speed of the first creep speed region; determining a difference between a dictated creep speed and the first actual creep speed; determining a first compensation frequency for minimizing the difference between the dictated creep speed and the first actual creep second; moving the elevator car in a second direction, the speed direction including a second creep speed region; determining the time to travel a given distance during the second run; determining a second actual creep speed of the second creep speed region; determining a difference between a dictated creep speed and the second actual creep speed; determining a second compensation frequency for minimizing the difference between the dictated creep speed and the second actual creep speed; and creating a load compensation characteristic in response to the time to travel a given distance and the first and second compensation frequencies.

Calibration routine with adaptive load compensation

A method of adjusting a leveling time of an elevator car is disclosed. The method includes the steps of: moving the elevator car in a hoistway; transmitting a first signal by a first sensor in response to moving the elevator car in the hoistway; beginning a time measurement in response to detecting the first signal; transmitting a second signal by a second sensor in response to moving the elevator car in the hoistway, the second sensor being disposed a predetermined distance from the first sensor; ending the time measurement in response to detecting the second signal; determining a time measurement value in response to ending the time measurement; determining a leveling speed of the elevator car by dividing the predetermined distance between the first sensor and the second sensor by the time measurement value; and adjusting the leveling time in response to determining the leveling speed.

Elevator leveling adjustment

The present invention solves the problem of discontinuous operation of an elevator door, depending upon the operating point of the door at the time of the reversal command, by a digital control technique which uses as a reference signal for the adaptation, the velocity dictation coming from a profile generator. This gives an information concerning the actual operating point. The adaptation of the controller parameters is made with respect to the signal.
