The invention relates to a steering system for a motor vehicle with electrical power assistance comprising: a steering-spindle bearing unit, in which the steering shaft is mounted rotatably and is guided in a slide, which can be connected to the vehicle body, wherein the steering-spindle bearing unit is adjustable at least in its inclination, an electric motor, which is coupled rotatably via reduction gearing to a steering spindle, wherein the reduction gearing is enclosed and mounted in a housing, wherein the housing has means for forming a swivelling axis, about which the steering-spindle bearing unit is adjustable in its inclination, wherein the steering system further comprises a retaining clamp for fastening the steering system to the motor vehicle, wherein the retaining clamp has a guideway that interacts with a counterstay arranged on the slide, wherein the slide is movable along the guideway after it overcomes a presettable releasing force, and in the case of displacement of the slide along the guideway, the swivelling axis is moved upwards relative to the retaining clamp.

Electrical power-assisted steering

A variable length steering spindle for a steering mechanism of a motor vehicle includes an outer sleeve, an inner member, a slide sleeve having recesses, and rolling bodies. The recesses and the rolling bodies are configured such that the rolling bodies project from the slide sleeve in a no-load state of the slide sleeve, and in an assembled state of the steering spindle the rolling bodies are prestressed against a raceway face and are displaced in a direction away from the raceway face against a reset force. The slide sleeve contacts the other of the outer sleeve and the inner member when a limit value of torque is exceeded. The rolling bodies are non-displaceable in the longitudinal direction with respect to the slide sleeve or are finitely displaceable between stops formed at distal ends of the recesses.

An adjustable steering column includes a steering spindle (), a shell unit () bearing the steering spindle (), a console unit (), stationary on the chassis, with at least one side wall (), which extends bilaterally along the shell unit () and supports the shell unit (). The steering column also includes a securement device, which can be opened and closed, in the opened state of which the shell unit () is adjustable relative to the console unit () at least in one adjustment direction, and which has a tension bolt () penetrating openings in the shell unit () and in the at least one side wall (). At least for one adjustment direction at least one tilting part () is provided acting in this adjustment direction, wherein in a torsion entailed in a deformation of the steering column of at least the segment, located in the proximity of the side wall (), of the shell unit () relative to the side wall (), an entrainment of the tilting part () takes place and clamping edges () and clamping faces () come to engage one another, whereby the displaceability of the tilting part () in this adjustment direction is inhibited.

Adjustable steering column

A locking device of a steering column adjustable in at least one adjustment direction () comprises at least one locking part () associated with the adjustment direction () or one of the adjustment directions, at least one counterlocking part () associated with this adjustment direction () and an openable and closable tensioning arrangement, in the opened state of which first and second toothings () of locking parts () are spaced apart from first and second countertoothings () of the counterlocking part (), and in the closed state of which the locking part () and the counterlocking part () engage each other's teeth. The planes () of the tips of teeth () of the first and second toothings () or first and second countertoothings () are disposed in a V shape relative to one another and between the teeth () of the first and second toothing () or the first and second countertoothing () is present an offset (v) in the adjustment direction (), which is a fraction of the distance (a) between successive teeth (to).

Locking device of a steering column adjustable in at least one adjustment direction

A steering spindle ( ) has a thin-walled container ( ) which is filled by an incompressible flowable material ( ). In the event of a crash, the container ( ) is opened up by means of a, for example, pyrotechnic device ( ). As a result, the flowable material ( ) emerges and the container ( ) deforms, whereby the forward vehicle intrusion is uncoupled from the behavior of the steering column.
