Techniques are disclosed which can allow a mobile device, which is no longer being updated by the device manufacturer, to receive updates from the manufacturer. In an implementation, an international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) is received from the mobile device that identifies a model of the mobile device. The mobile device can have at least one application that is unable to communicate with a server of the mobile device's manufacturer. A provisioning server may determine that the mobile device is depreciated based upon the IMEI, and obtain a key unique to the mobile device. The key and at least one Access Point Name may be transmitted to the mobile device, which can allow the mobile device to direct its data traffic to the server of the manufacturer.

A system for self-activation of a portable device on a wireless network includes a first server that receives a first message from a particular portable device with a unique identifier that indicates the device type of the device that is at least one of a first type or a second type of portable device. A second message comprising data including the device type corresponding to the portable device is sent to a second server. The second server sends an activation message in response to receiving the second message when the device type determined is the first type; and the second server sends the activation message after a delay interval that is longer than a boot-up sequence time when the device type determined is the second type. The activation message prompts the user to activate the device for use on the wireless network.

A method for presenting services to a subscriber includes certain processes. The method includes collecting usage data associated with an account for the subscriber that is associated with a portable device. The method includes storing usage data in a repository. The method includes determining whether the usage data satisfies a condition. The method includes determining whether an actionable category of data exists. The method includes determining an action based on the actionable category of data and a set of rules. The method includes receiving a first message from the portable device indicating that a communication function of the portable device has terminated. The method includes sending a second message to the portable device that requests an input from the subscriber via the portable device and is based on the action. The method includes receiving a third message from the portable device that includes a response to the second message.

Device, computer-readable medium, and method for modifying services using advanced data collection capabilities

A device includes one or more processor, a display, and a module card. The one or more processor determines that a communication function of the device has terminated and sends a notification to the module card that indicates the termination. The module card sends a message to a server in response to receiving the notification and receives another message from the server. The message indicates that the device is ready to receive the other message. The other message includes an instruction and another notification, which is based on usage of an account and identifies an actionable category with respect thereto. The instruction causes the one or more processor to function as display, receiving, determining, and sending devices, which respectively display the other notification, receive an input response thereto, determine that the response corresponds to a confirmation to implement the actionable category, and send a further message including the response.

A method for presenting services to a subscriber comprises obtaining, via a first server, subscriber usage data associated with a portable device service from a plurality of databases, and sending the subscriber usage data to a second server. The method further includes processing, via the second server, the subscriber usage data using a predetermined algorithm, determining an actionable category of data based on the processed subscriber usage data, generating content corresponding to a first message based on the actionable category of data, and sending via the third server, the first message to a portable device, wherein the first message request a subscriber input.

A portable device includes a processor; a receiver configured to receive a first message, the first message comprising a notification and a first instruction; a transmitter; a display; and a module card. The module card includes a memory, which is configured to store the first message, a toolkit comprising a plurality of commands, and a second instruction. The second instruction, when executed by the processor, instructs the module card to function as an interpreter configured to interpret the first instruction. The first instruction, when executed by the interpreter, implements the plurality of commands. Implementing the plurality of commands then causes the processor to function as a display device that displays the notification on the display; a receiving device that receives an input as a response to the notification; a determining device configured to determine whether the response corresponds to a confirmation to continue services; and a sending device that sends a second message via the transmitter when the response corresponds to the confirmation to continue services, such that the second message comprises the response to the notification.

An improved system and method for rating subscribers based on wireless subscriber specific credentials. A wireless network operator, or a content/application provider assigns to a subscriber a unique username. For purposes of providing rating or feedback information, the assigned username acts uniquely to identify the subscriber, whose actual identity therefore remains anonymous. The subscriber uses his or her mobile phone to access a mobile telephony network. Evaluators may offer feedback or ratings of the subscriber using the internet.
