The present invention relates to bioreactors for root organ cultures that enable large parts of the inoculation or biomass transfer, cultivation and harvest of the cultures to be performed outside of an aseptic environment. The present invention further relates to methods of producing and aseptically harvesting roots, and methods of producing root cultures using the aforementioned bioreactors alone or as part of an apparatus further comprising an inoculation vessel or at least one further bioreactor.

Bioreactors for root organ cultures

The present invention relates to an aqueous composition comprising cells of at least one strain of a halophilic microorganism, and alkali sulfate in a concentration of at least 30 g/l based on the total volume of the aqueous composition. The present invention further relates to a method for treating a waste water, comprising obtaining or providing a waste water, contacting said waste water with cells of at least one strain of a halophilic microorganism, and thereby generating an aqueous composition comprising alkali sulfate in a concentration of at least 30 g/l, and incubating said aqueous composition under conditions which allow for the treatment of the waste water.

A method for producing a recombinant protein of interest (POI) is provided, comprising the steps of (a) culturing cells in a cell culture medium to express said POI by adding a feed comprising at least one substrate to said cell culture, (b) applying a feeding strategy based on calculating, setting and optionally controlling the specific substrate uptake rate qof the cells during the induction phase and/or production phase of the POI, wherein qis set to be close to the maintenance rate of the cell culture; and (c) isolating said POI from the cell culture.

The present invention relates to a method for reducing the aniline content of hypersaline wastewater, said method comprising the steps of (a) providing a composition A comprising hypersaline wastewater and aniline, and (b) contacting composition A with cells of at least one halophilic microbial strain, thereby generating a composition B comprising said composition A and cells of said at least one halophilic microbial strain. The present invention further concerns a method for the production of chlorine and sodium hydroxide. Further encompassed by the present invention is a composition comprising hypersaline wastewater, aniline, and cells of at least one halophilic microbial strain.
