Sensor system () for detecting a target substance in a reference liquid, comprising a measurement cantilever () being functionalized by application of a first coating to one of the measurement cantilever's surfaces, whereby this first coating is sensitive to the target substance. In addition, the system () comprises a reference cantilever () with a reference coating on one of the reference cantilever's surfaces, whereby this reference coating is less sensitive to the target substance than the first coating. Both cantilevers are arranged such that they can be exposed in a reference step to the reference liquid and in a detection step to the reference liquid with the target substance. A detector unit () is employed for determining the difference in the deflection of the measurement cantilever () and the reference cantilever () during the reference step and the detection step.

Cantilever sensors and transducers

A microelectronic device is designed such that it includes a region between electrodes having a switchable ohmic resistance wherein the region is made of a substance comprising components A , B , and oxygen O . The ohmic resistance in the region is reversibly switchable between different states by applying different voltage pulses. The different voltage pulses lead to the respective different states. An appropriate amount of dopant(s) in the substance improves the switching, whereby the microelectronic device becomes controllable and reliable.

An investigation device includes a time of flight mass spectrometer with an entrance opening, and an electrically conductive tip on a cantilever which is movable from a first position near a sample on a sample holder to a second position near the entrance opening. A sample particle is obtained with the tip being in the first position from the sample. The tip, with the particle, is moved into the second position where the particle can be accelerated towards the entrance opening. The particle is analyzable by the time of flight mass spectrometer.

The vibration filter comprises an inner ring (27) on which vibration-sensitive equipment may be installed, the ring (27) being suspended from a plurality of springs (24, 25, 26) elastically supported by posts (18, 19, 20) in turn mounted on an outer ring (1) which is spring-suspended the same as the inner ring (27) from a rigid bench (8). The springs (12, 13, 14; 24, 25, 26) and other elastic members (9, 10, 11; 15, 16, 17; 21, 22, 23; 28, 29, 30) have differing resonant frequencies. This method involves the deposition of free metal atoms (4) from the apex (5) of a pointed tip (1) supported at a distance of 10 to 20 nm from a substrate (2). The atoms (4) are being field-desorbed under the influence of a strong electric field existing between the tip (1) and the substrate (2). With the tip (1) being moved across the substrate (2), a narrow trace (6) of metal atoms will be deposited on the substrate.
