In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a UE configured to receive a plurality of beams through a plurality of different receive beam directions, each of the beams including broadcast information on a PBCH. The apparatus may be further configured to determine, for each of a subset of the received beams, a log likelihood ratio (LLR) for coded bits of the broadcast information. The apparatus may be further configured to decode the broadcast information associated with each of the subset of the received beams, and determine a refined receive beam direction based on the determined LLRs and based on whether the broadcast information associated with each of the subset of the received beams fails to decode or is successfully decoded.

Methods and apparatus related to beam refinement

A receiver receives packets without prior knowledge of their bandwidths. The receiver calculates a first auto-correlation function for a first channel, a second auto-correlation function for a second channel, and a dot product of the first auto-correlation function and the second auto-correlation function. A packet is detected and its bandwidth classified based at least in part on the dot product.

To reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of a complex-valued digital baseband signal, the signal is mixed to an intermediate frequency and its real components extracted, to generate an intermediate-frequency real-valued digital signal. The intermediate frequency is one-quarter of a sampling rate of the complex-valued digital baseband signal. The intermediate-frequency real-valued digital signal is clipped and down-converted by one-quarter of the sampling rate.

A system is provided for transmitting information through a speech codec (in-band) such as found in a wireless communication network. A modulator transforms the data into a spectrally noise-like signal based on the mapping of a shaped pulse to predetermined positions within a modulation frame, and the signal is efficiently encoded by a speech codec. A synchronization sequence provides modulation frame timing at the receiver and is detected based on analysis of a correlation peak pattern. A request/response protocol provides reliable transfer of data using message redundancy, retransmission, and/or robust modulation modes dependent on the communication channel conditions.

System and method of an in-band modem for data communications over digital wireless communication networks

Successive pairs of OFDM symbols are transmitted by an OFDM transmitter and received by an OFDM receiver. The successive pairs include a first pair of OFDM symbols. First and second OFDM symbols of the first pair both include pilot symbols on two subcarriers that are symmetric about a center carrier frequency. The two subcarriers are the same for the first and second OFDM symbols. The pilot symbols on the two subcarriers for the first and second OFDM symbols compose an orthogonal matrix. The OFDM receiver estimates frequency responses at frequencies including the frequencies of the two subcarriers and compensates for signal impairment based at least in part on the estimated frequency responses.

Techniques for receiving a MIMO transmission are described. A receiver processes received data for the MIMO transmission based on a front-end filter to obtain filtered data. The receiver further processes the filtered data based on at least one first combiner matrix to obtain detected data for a first frame. The receiver demodulates and decodes this detected data to obtain decoded data for the first frame. The receiver then processes the filtered data based on at least one second combiner matrix and the decoded data for the first frame to cancel interference due to the first frame and obtain detected data for a second frame. The receiver processes this detected data to obtain decoded data for the second frame. The front-end filter processes non on-time signal components in the received data. Each combiner matrix combines on-time signal components in the filtered data to obtain detected data for a channelization code.
