A tablet press with a rotary turret that is driven by a direct drive is described. The rotary turret can be driven by a simple, inexpensive drive having low vibrations, which reduces the stress on the mechanical components and the drive train of the press.

The use of radio technology for transmission of EMERGENCY-OFF, START-, STOP- and process and confirmation signals from industrial processing machines, such as numerically controlled machine tools and robots, by radio is described. There is no need for any additional safety measures for the START and process signals by means of a confirmation signal, provided the control functions satisfy appropriate safety requirements. To this end, safety-relevant signals are physically detected on at least two channels at the transmitter end, the detected data are logically transmitted by at least two channels using a safety technique by radio to a receiver end, and the received data are likewise physically processed and monitored on at least two channels at the receiver end. In addition to the safety-related signal data, additional protection data are produced for monitoring purposes and are used at the receiver end for monitoring by checking the plausibility of a redundant value for data protection and by cross-comparison of the evaluation results, etc.

If at least one velocity reference value of an axis of motion exceeds an assigned limit, the velocity of the predetermined total motion of the track is reduced. In order to obtain a stable control behavior of the robot, an additional velocity reduction of the track motion is executed for each of the individual axes of motion within predetermined range limits. The boundaries of these range limits are selected according to the respective velocity and/or acceleration of the robot along the track.

For reducing the dead time in the control circuit for the track control of an industrial robot (IR), a sensor signal (s) is fed back not at the interpolation clock frequency, but at the faster position control frequency. For this purpose it is necessary to transform the correction vector (c) derived from the sensor signal (s) separately into robot-referred coordinates (.DELTA., .alpha.) and to feed it back to the input of the position control. The actualization of arm position dependent transformation parameters (b.sub.mn) can take place at the interpolation frequency.

Apparatus and method for controlling an industrial robot

In a robot motion control system a modular sensor data preprocessing unit is provided between the sensors and a motion control unit. Modules in the data preprocessing unit are activated in a temporal sequence in accordance with the kinds of sensors involved and the technological task to be performed. The data preprocessing unit comprises a data transfer control circuit, a basic function control circuit and a complex function control circuit, each such circuit including a plurality of independently activatable function modules. For example, the complex function circuit includes a velocity control module and a path correction module.
