Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for scrolling a virtual keyboard on a touch screen device including a display. A first aspect allows detecting a user contact swipe motion in a predetermined direction along said keyboard, scrolling said keyboard across said display in accordance with said motion, and stopping said scrolling upon termination of user contact swipe motion. A second aspect allows scrolling of a virtual keyboard to snap to an intelligent position based on a song key or relative minor of the song key. A third aspect allows a note to be held when a user's finger remains in contact with the display even though the finger is no longer in contact with a key linked to the note on the keyboard as a result of scrolling. A fourth aspect displays a second musical instrument keyboard adjacent to a first musical instrument keyboard, wherein said second musical instrument keyboard is linked to said first musical instrument keyboard such that scrolling of one keyboard causes automatic scrolling of the other keyboard.

Scrolling virtual music keyboard

Systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media generate customized arpeggios. An exemplary method includes providing a storage medium, including a database storing data corresponding to an arpeggio pattern to be played by a virtual instrument. The method further includes receiving a plurality of user inputs that enable a user to select a desired set of musical notes (e.g. a chord) other than the notes (e.g. chord) used to create the arpeggio stored in the database, without having to re-enter the note sequence. The method then includes creating the desired arpeggio for the selected set of notes by applying the stored arpeggio data from the database to the entered notes, and playing the created desired arpeggio.

Generating customized arpeggios in a virtual musical instrument

A system and method that enables a user to generate and manipulate string-instrument chord grids in a digital audio workstation. The system and method for generating a string-instrument chord grid includes receiving first data input and second data input. The first data input can include a chord root note and/or a position for one or more fingering dots. The second data input can include an instrument type and our tuning for one or more strings. Using the received data input, a processor generates an entered string-instrument chord based and displays the entered string-instrument chord on a grid. The processor can also generate and display the musical name of the entered string-instrument chord.

System and method to generate and manipulate string-instrument chord grids in a digital audio workstation

The disclosed technology provides for determining whether an audio stream is monophonic or polyphonic. An exemplary method includes analyzing and detecting frequency peaks in a portion of the audio stream. The method includes determining whether the portion of the audio stream is monophonic, by determining if all detected peaks are integer intervals of a lowest detected frequency peak. The method then includes determining that the audio stream portion is monophonic if a greatest common devisor frequency exists between a threshold frequency and the lowest detected frequency peak, wherein each detected peak is an integer multiple of the greatest common devisor frequency. The method includes determining that the portion of the audio stream is polyphonic if any one of the detected peaks is not substantially an integer multiple of the lowest detected frequency and if no greatest common devisor frequency exists between the threshold frequency and the lowest detected frequency peak.
