An improved release medium is disclosed for use in the production of decorative laminates by pressure consolidation. The release medium comprises a self-sustaining release sheet having at least one of its surfaces coated with a composition comprised of mineral particles dispersed in a resinous matrix. The release medium may be used to apply an abrasion-resistant coating to the surface of a decorative laminate during production of the laminate by pressure consolidation.

An improved release medium is disclosed for use in the production of decorative laminates by both low or high pressure consolidation. The release medium comprises a self-sustaining release sheet having at least one of its surfaces coated with a composition comprised of mineral particles dispersed in a resinous matrix. The release medium may be used to apply an abrasion-resistant coating to the surface of a decorative laminate during production of the laminate by pressure consolidation.

Method for the production of abrasion-resistant decorative laminates

A heat and pressure consolidated laminate in which the back most sheet has fused thereto a surface film composition of polyvinyl alcohol, animal glue or starch which serves as a glue line to which conventional glues adhere, the film being adhered to the back most sheet during heat and pressure consolidation of the laminate by transferring the same from a release layer to the back most surface of the laminate and fusing the transferred film to the thermosetting resin impregnated in the back sheet.

A heat and pressure consolidated laminate in which the back most sheet has fused thereto a surface film composition of polyvinyl alcohol, animal glue or starch which serves a glue line to which conventional glues adhere, the film being adhered to the back most sheet during heat pressure consolidation of the laminate by transferring the same from a release layer to the back most surface of the laminate and fusing the transferred film to the thermosetting resin impregnated in the back sheet.
