An oral product, particularly for anti-tartar use, is provided which includes from about 0.001 to about 20% of beads which include a zinc salt, the zinc salt having an average particle size ranging from about 0.01 to about 5 mm, and a dental base.

Zinc citrate beads in oral compositions

An anti-tartar oral product is provided which includes from about 0.001 to about 20% of beads which include a zinc salt and a gum held in a water matrix, the zinc salt and gum being present in a relative weight ratio from about 10,000:1 to about 10:1, and a dental base.

An oral composition is provided containing stabilized peroxide ingredients. Stabilization is achieved by combination of a triphenyl methane dye and potassium nitrate. Particularly useful as the dye are FD&C Blue 1 and FD&C Green 3.

Stable peroxide dental compositions

A dental product is provided packaged in a telescopically arranged multi-cavity dispensing container having at least two cylinders in an upper body thereof. Peroxide and baking soda are placed as active ingredients in separate respective semi-solid streams, each stream being in separate ones of the cylinders. Uniform dispensing of each stream to deliver relatively equivalent ribbon length of each stream by incorporating a synthetic linear anionic polycarboxylate to adjust viscosity. Preferred polycarboxylates are homopolymers of acrylic, methacrylic and maleic acids, most especially a copolymer of vinyl methyl ether and maleic acid or anhydride.

Dental product

A method for whitening teeth is provided which involves applying to the teeth a mixture of a peroxide and a bicarbonate salt. Advantageously, the peroxide and bicarbonate salt are stored as active ingredients in separate respective compositions of a dispensing container. Preferably the dispensing container is a pump in the form of an upper and lower body telescopically engageable one with another, the upper body including at least two hollow and separate parallel cylinders each containing one of the compositions. These compositions may then be dispensed through relative compression of the pistons within the cylinders.

Method for whitening teeth

A method for minimizing damage to gingival and periodontal tissue is provided through steps that include delivering a first composition containing a zinc salt to a receptacle, delivering a second composition containing a bicarbonate salt to the same receptacle, and transferring within five minutes of delivery to the receptacle the combination into the mouth onto the gingival and periodontal tissues. Where the compositions are semi-solid such as in a toothpaste and/or gel, the receptacle is ordinarily a toothbrush. Liquid compositions such as mouthrinses may employ an expectorant cup as a receptacle.

Method for treating gingival and periodontal tissues

A dental product is provided in a dual-compartment dispenser that includes a first and second composition in respective compartments thereof. The first composition includes a zinc salt while the second composition includes a bicarbonate salt. Preferably the first composition also contains a peroxygen compound or a C.sub.2 -C.sub.20 carboxylic acid. The zinc salt in combination with the bicarbonate salt achieves an enhanced antitartar effect.

Dental compositions with zinc and bicarbonate salts

An oral composition and method is provided that includes a peroxygen compound such as hydrogen peroxide, a fluoride-containing anticaries agent and a zinc compound such as zinc citrate. The presence of the zinc compound inhibits decomposition that ordinarily would be induced by the presence of fluoride.

Stabilized peroxide gels containing fluoride

An oral composition is provided that includes a peroxygen compound such as hydrogen peroxide, a fluoride-containing anticaries agent and a tin compound, especially stannous chloride. The tin compound stabilizes the peroxygen compound against decomposition that ordinarily would be induced by the presence of fluoride.

An oral composition is provided having a first peroxide-containing component and a second bicarbonate-containing component. The first component has a flavor which is reactively incompatible with bicarbonate salts while the second component has a flavor which is reactively compatible with the bicarbonate.
