An XSLT-based transformation process addresses the performance problems of ordinary XSLT transformations and provides for an efficient conversion of many sources of raw, or interpreted, application data into many different interpretations. In addition, the data may be filtered to downstream users, thus enabling the use of security measures by way of the filters.

Illustrative embodiments provide a computer implemented method for managing log information. The method comprising, responsive to receiving a request to discover log information, and invoking a set discovery agents to discover the log information for logs located on a set of managed nodes. The method further identifies the log information on the set of managed nodes using the set of discovery agents and stores the log information in a repository knowledge base containing log information.

An activemark mechanism for a live parsing editor allows marks (labels) in text to be referenced or linked to any editor command, macro, or any external tool activated by the editor. The activemark mechanism includes a parsing mechanism which creates an activemark automatically when the document is loaded in the editor, and thereafter as a user enters information into the document by parsing the changes to the document as they are committed. The activemarks are dynamic in that their meaning and behavior are updated in the context of any external tool which is activated by the editor.

It is desirable for software developers to be able to conveniently obtain feedback from users of applications. It is known for developers and others to use code instrumentation for gathering various types of data relating to applications and their uses. The use of compile time instrumentation may be practical for some situations but it has significant drawbacks when used to provide indications of user interaction with applications. The present invention relates to the use of run time instrumentation for providing feedback from users of object oriented applications where the applications have unique object identifiers and support dynamic data exchange. The invention utilizes a setup software tool to create a monitor input file which indicates which objects of the application should be monitored when a user interacts with them.
