A method for visualizing a membrane on a retina of an eye includes recording a first image of the retina of the eye, wherein the membrane on the retina of the eye is not stained, recording a second image of the retina of the eye after the membrane on the retina of the eye has been stained, determining a first transformation such that mutually corresponding structures of the retina of the eye are located at mutually corresponding places in the second image and in the first image which was transformed with the first transformation, identifying image regions in the second image, which contain the membrane on the retina, based on the transformed first image and the recorded second image, and displaying the second image such that the identified image regions in the second image are highlighted relative to the surroundings of the identified image regions.

Method for visualizing a membrane on a retina of an eye and surgical microscope for performing the method

A method for improving an OCT image of an object such as the retina of an eye, using optical coherence tomography by an imaging beam path. In order to suppress shadowing effects due to a surgical instrument moved in the imaging beam path, a time series of OCT images is produced. For an OCT image to be corrected, an area of the object lying in the image and shadowed by the instrument is determined. Another earlier OCT image in which the area of the object is not shadowed is searched in the time series. Image information for the area of the object is read from the earlier OCT image. A corrected OCT image is produced by inserting the read-image information into the OCT image to be corrected, wherein in the OCT image to be corrected, the image information replaces the area of the object which is shadowed by the instrument.

An ophthalmologic system comprising and eye tracker and an OCT system. A method of operating the ophthalmologic system comprises: providing data representing a placement of a first B-scan performed on an eye relative to the eye; performing a measurement on the eye using the eye tracker; determining a placement of the eye relative to the ophthalmologic system based on the measurement using the eye tracker; placing the eye relative to a reference placement of the OCT system based on the provided data and the determined placement; performing A-scans on the eye at at least three A-scan positions; determining a placement of a second B-scan relative to the OCT system based on at least one of the at least three A-scans and the provided data such that the second B-scan and the first B-scan have a substantially same placement relative to the eye; and generating a representation of the second B-scan.

Ophthalmologic system and method of operating the same

An eye surgery apparatus has imaging optics for generating an observation image of a patient eye. A device determines the azimuthal orientation of the patient eye with respect to a reference which is fixed with respect to the patient eye. The device includes a display unit for simultaneously displaying a section of an observation image of the eye and a reference image thereof. An input interface permits an observer to move the displayed section of the observation image relative to the displayed section of the reference image. A measuring system determines the azimuthal orientation of the observation image and reference image. A computer program calculates the center of the limbus of the observation image and reference image. The display unit displays the pixels of the observation image of the patient eye with polar coordinates. The pixels of the reference image of the patient eye are displayed with polar coordinates.

Method for determining the azimuthal orientation of a patient eye and eye surgical apparatus therefor

A system and method for optical coherence elastography of tissue of an eye. The method includes introducing a probe into the eye, the probe including a vibration element, generating time resolved images of the tissue of the eye located posterior the vibration element of the probe by optical coherence tomography, exciting the vibration element to ultrasonic vibrations making the tissue vibrate or oscillate, measuring a displacement of the tissue in the time resolved images, and calculating elasticity values of the tissue from the displacement.
