Systems are provided for a diesel oxidation catalyst. Methods and systems for a diesel oxidation catalyst

The disclosure generally relates to filters, methods, and systems for filtering particulates from the exhaust of internal combustion engines such as gasoline direct injection engines and methods of preparing particulate filters.

Particulate filters

Methods and systems are provided for a low temperature NOx adsorber (LTNA). In one example, a method includes operating in a first mode, the first mode including storing exhaust NOx in an LTNA, heating the LTNA until an LTNA outlet temperature reaches a first threshold temperature, and then converting released NOx in a downstream selective catalyst reduction (SCR) device; and operating in a second mode, the second mode including heating the LTNA until the LTNA outlet temperature reaches a second threshold temperature, higher than the first threshold temperature, and converting exhaust NOx in the SCR device.

Methods and systems for exhaust emission control

Methods and systems are provided for a low temperature NOx adsorber (LTNA). In one example, a method includes initiating a desulfation of an LTNA responsive to an estimated sulfur exposure exceeding a threshold, the desulfation including heating the LTNA to a first threshold temperature while maintaining an exhaust oxygen level above a threshold level throughout the entire desulfation.

Methods and systems are provided for monitoring a NOx storage capacity of a passive NOx adsorption catalyst (PNA) included in an exhaust gas after-treatment system of an engine. In one example, a method may include, after an engine cold start and prior to an exhaust gas temperature reaching an upper threshold temperature, indicating degradation of the PNA based on an amount of NOx measured downstream of the PNA during a fuel cut event and while the exhaust gas temperature is between a lower threshold temperature and the upper threshold temperature. In this way, degradation of the NOx storage capacity may be inferred based on an amount of NOx released from the PNA and independent of a NOx storage measurement.

Systems and methods for on-board monitoring of a passive NOx adsorption catalyst

Methods and systems are provided for a diesel oxidation catalyst. In one example, the diesel oxidation catalyst comprises a washcoat with different catalytically active portions for reacting with one or more of carbon containing compounds and NO. The diesel oxidation catalyst is located upstream of a particulate filter in an exhaust passage.

Methods and systems are provided for SCR devices cascaded along an exhaust passage. In one example, a method may include adjusting a reductant injection pressure based on a temperature of one or more of the SCR devices.

Exhaust system

A method utilizes a three-way catalytic converter, having a catalyst formed from a plurality of particles each including a first metal oxide center, a second metal oxide monolayer, and a catalytically active metal to decrease concentration of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides in exhaust gas during stoichiometric, rich, and lean conditions, wherein a molar ratio of metal in the monolayers to metal in the centers is between about 0.01 and 0.2.

Catalyst for automotive emissions control

Methods and systems are provided for reducing engine cold-start emissions. An exhaust system having a passive NOx adsorber (PNA) may store NOx during an engine cold-start until conditions are optimal for release of the stored NOx to a downstream SCR catalyst. Based on PNA conditions, including a NOx load and a PNA bed temperature, adjustments to EGR rate and/or injection timing may be made to achieve a catalytically favorable ratio of NOx species upstream of the SCR catalyst, after the SCR catalyst has reached its light-off temperature.

Method of controlling NOx by PNA

A selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst includes a support layer. A copper-loaded chabazite (Cu/CHA) layer is supported on the support layer. A copper-loaded beta zeolite (Cu/beta) is supported on the Cu/CHA layer. The Cu/beta may be hydrothermally pre-aged prior to use of the SCR catalyst in a vehicle. The pre-aged Cu/beta is essentially free of phosphorous (P), calcium (Ca), zinc (Zn), sodium (Na), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe), CaSO, CaZn(PO), CaZn(PO), ash, and/or soot.

Selective catalytic reduction catalyst

An exhaust system for a diesel engine is disclosed. The exhaust system may include a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) configured to receive exhaust gases from the engine and oxidize hydrocarbons in the exhaust gases and a passive NOx adsorber (PNA) downstream from the DOC and configured to store NOx from the exhaust gases at temperatures up to 150&#xb0; C. A selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system may be downstream from the PNA and configured to reduce NOx in the exhaust gases. The PNA may be configured to release the stored NOx at temperatures above 200&#xb0; C. The DOC upstream of the PNA may reduce the amount of NO that is generated by the PNA by oxidizing hydrocarbons before they reach the PNA.

Emissions reduction system

Various methods are provided for operating an emission control device. In one example, a method for an emission control device including a catalyst and a filter comprises passively regenerating the filter, and adjusting, via a controller, a duration of active regeneration of the filter based on an oxygen storage capacity of the emission control device.

Emission control device regeneration

Various systems and methods are described for managing ammonia storage in an SCR catalyst. In one example approach, a method comprises, in response to a vehicle-off event, injecting ammonia during a final exhaust blowdown until a predetermined value of ammonia is stored in the SCR catalyst; and in response to a subsequent vehicle-on event when an amount of ammonia stored in the SCR catalyst is less than the predetermined value, injecting ammonia until the predetermined value of ammonia is stored in the SCR catalyst.

A diesel engine exhaust treatment system is provided which includes a diesel oxidation catalyst and a diesel particulate filter, where a first SCR catalyst is positioned at the inlet of the diesel particulate filter, and a second SCR catalyst is coated on the filter. The first and second SCR catalysts each have a low loading, such that a lower backpressure is achieved over the use of a single SCR-coated diesel particulate filter at higher catalyst loadings. The exhaust treatment system also provides effective catalyst efficiency for removal of NOand other gaseous emissions.

Diesel engine exhaust treatment system

An emission control system is provided. The emission control system includes an oxidation catalyst having a precious metal loading of less than 100 grams (g)/cubic foot (ft) and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) component positioned downstream of the oxidation catalyst operated between 150&#xb0; C. and 300&#xb0; C. during engine operation to reduce the formation of NO in the selective-catalytic reduction component.
