Disclosed herein is a printing system is described having a first printer including a fuser employing fuser oil, and a coater disposed upstream or downstream from the first printer and being configured to deposit a wax coating on a portion of the substrate. A corresponding method and a substrate also are described. The system, method and substrate are useful for preparing MICR encoded documents such as checks.

System and method for pre-treating magnetic ink character recognition readable documents

A system and a method to protect an image on a substrate. The method includes applying a coating to the surface of a substrate having an unspread ink image thereon, wherein the image is formed by droplets of solid ink, and wherein the coating interacts with the ink. Moreover, the method includes spreading the coated ink on the surface of the substrate, wherein the ink and the coating interact during the spreading process and wherein the spread ink on the surface of the substrate forms the continuous image.

Disclosed herein is a xerographic print comprising a substrate having a printed image thereon comprising a low melt temperature toner, and a polyolefin wax coating formed over the printed image having a dry thickness in the range of about 0.5 to about 5 microns. The wax coating substantially prevents toner offset at temperatures up to at least 70&#xb0; C. A printing system and coating method also are disclosed. The prints, printing system and method are useful for making brochures and books that will be subjected to high temperatures, pressures, and/or humidity levels, such as manuals stored in automobile glove compartments.

Inline coatings process for xerographically prepared MICR checks

Disclosed herein is a xerographic print comprising a substrate with a toner-based image printed thereon, the printed substrate including low surface tension portions having a surface tension of no more than about 22 mN/m at 25 Deg. C. resulting in a surface tension gradient field on the substrate, the printed substrate being coated with a coating comprising at least one surfactant and a film-forming polymer, the coating having a liquid phase surface tension at 25 Deg. C. not exceeding the surface tension of the low surface tension portions of the printed substrate by more than about 2 mN/m, the coating having substantially no pinholes and being sufficiently resistant to permeation by the fuser oil to exhibit an effective absence of haze 24 hours after application. A system and a method of applying a substantially pinhole-free and haze-free coating substantially immediately after print fusing also are disclosed.

Embodiments include a chemical toner composition having a first resin including a styrene vinyl copolymer and having a Tg of from about 46 to about 56&#xb0; C., b) a second resin including a styrene vinyl copolymer having a Tg of from about 55 to about 65&#xb0; C., c) a distilled wax having a heat of crystallization and a heat of enthalpy, both from about 1.0 to about 4.0 J/g for every weight percent of the wax used in the chemical toner composition, and wherein the wax has a peak melting point of from about 70 to about 99&#xb0; C., and d) a colorant, wherein the chemical toner has a gloss of from about 30 to about 80 GGU.

Toner including toner particles having a calcium-containing material at least in a surface portion of the toner particle, wherein the toner particles contain calcium in an amount of from 20 ppm to about 300 ppm of calcium by dry weight of the toner. Developer including a carrier and a toner, wherein the toner includes toner particles having a calcium-containing material at least in a surface portion of the toner particles. In an emulsion aggregation process for making toner particles, the toner particles are treated with calcium. The addition of calcium to the toner particles improves toner performance by lowering cohesion and charging, thereby generating an image of high gloss.

A method for forming toner particles includes polymerizing monomers to form a latex comprising polymer particles; combining the latex with an unsaturated curable resin to form aggregates containing the polymer particles and the unsaturated curable resin particles; and heating the aggregates to form coalesced particles. A toner composition that may be formed by the process described herein contains toner particles containing: (i) a polymer comprising a photoinitiator, (ii) an unsaturated curable resin and, (iii) a colorant.

The toners prepared according to the present disclosure have gained improved properties such as gloss, fusing performance, crease performance, stripping performance, document offset, vinyl offset, and parent charging etc.
