A cutting element for a retracting needle syringe having a plunger with a cuttable distal end and a spring biased needle held by a cuttable support and a cutting element capable of cutting the cuttable distal end and the cuttable support includes a body portion having a proximal end, a distal end side wall therebetween and a passageway therethrough. The distal end of the body portion includes a cutting edge and a raised distally projecting tapered cutting tooth having distally converging edges. At least one tooth edge includes a sharp side wall for cutting the distal end of the plunger and the needle support.

Cutting element for a retracting needle syringe

A stylet for insertion within a cannula interior of a needle is disclosed. The stylet includes a solid elongated shaft having a proximal end adapted for engagement with a needle hub, and a distal end having a surface modified profile. The surface modified profile increases the penetration force required to penetrate human skin. The ratio of the penetration force of a stylet having an unmodified distal end to the stylet having a surface modified profile is at least 1:1.4, or greater. The surface modified profile may be a roughened surface, a buffed surface and/or a blunted surface. The surface modified profile may include a yieldable material disposed over at least a portion of the distal end. A needle assembly having a stylet having a surface modified profile is also disclosed.

Safety stylet

A hub assembly, such as for long needles, is disclosed. The hub assembly includes a needle hub having a proximal end and a distal end, having a cannula extending therethrough and protruding from the distal end, with the needle hub having a first engagement portion. The hub assembly also includes a stylet handle having a stylet extending therefrom. The stylet is adapted to be received within a portion of the cannula, with the stylet handle having a second engagement portion. An engagement of the first engagement portion of the needle hub and the second engagement portion of the stylet handle forms a positive lock in which at least a portion of one of the first and second engagement portions is held within the other of the first and second engagement portions in an unbiased state.

Stylet handle attachment device

A syringe including a barrel (), a retractable needle () and a plunger rod assembly () including inner () and outer () members with a stopper () for expelling fluids from the syringe is disclosed. An activation member () associated with the plunger rod permits relative movement of the inner and outer members when activated. The stopper is configured to compress a sufficient amount when advanced distally in the barrel to cause the activation element to engage and cause retraction of the needle within the syringe.

Retractable needle syringe assembly

A syringe and detachable needle assembly having binary attachment features include an elongate syringe barrel having a longitudinal axis, an open proximal end and an open distal end including a collar. The collar includes the cylindrically shaped sidewall having an inside surface and an outside surface. A needle assembly includes the hub having a body portion including a proximal end, a distal end and a conduit therethrough. A cannula having a distal end, a proximal end and a lumen therethrough is attached to the distal end of the hub so that the lumen is in fluid communication with the chamber. A lug is provided on one of the collar and the hub and a ramp and a rest surface is provided on the other of the collar and the hub. The ramp is oriented at an acute angle with respect to longitudinal axis for guiding the lug during needle assembly attachment, to the rest surface forcing the hub to contact the barrel to form a seal the hub and the barrel.
