A method of making an electrochemical sensor strip that includes: depositing a first electrode on a base; depositing a second electrode on the base; applying a first layer onto the first electrode; and applying a second layer onto the second electrode. The first layer includes an oxidoreductase and a mediator. The second layer includes a soluble redox species.

An electrochemical sensor strip has a base and a first electrode and a second electrode on the base. An oxidoreductase enzyme and a mediator are on the first electrode, and a soluble redox species is on the second electrode. The soluble redox species may be an organotransition metal complex, a transition metal coordination complex, an electroactive organic molecule, or mixtures thereof.

Enzymatic electrochemical biosensor

A method of detecting incomplete filling of an electrochemical biosensor by collecting a series of electrical current values when a constant electrical potential is applied across the working and counter electrodes during a preliminary burn period. The slope of a line determined by linear regression based on the series of current values is used to determine whether or not the biosensor is incompletely filled. If the line has a positive slope, the biosensor is reported to be under filled. If the slope is not positive, the correlation coefficient of the current values is used as a supplemental test to indicate whether or not the biosensor is incompletely filled.

A sensor for analyzing a fluid sample has a sample cavity for accepting sample fluid. At least one test region is disposed along the sample cavity, and at least one vent fulfills the dual function of venting the sample cavity and guiding the sample fluid in the sample cavity via appropriate location and geometry of at least one sample guide edge.

Reagents for detecting an analyte are described. A reagent comprises (a) an enzyme selected from the group consisting of a flavoprotein, a quinoprotein, and a combination thereof; and (b) a mediator selected from the group consisting of a phenothiazine, a phenoxazine, and a combination thereof. In addition, reagents having good stability to radiation sterilization are described. Electrochemical sensors and sampling devices comprising such reagents, methods of producing a sterilized device including such reagents, and methods for detecting an analyte which utilize such reagents are described as well.
