An ostomy appliance includes an ostomy hydrocolloid having a body-facing side, a pouch-facing side and a stoma opening, at least one fluid aperture formed in the body-facing side and at least one fluidic channel embedded in the ostomy hydrocolloid having a proximal portion disposed in fluid communication with the at least one fluid aperture. The ostomy appliance also includes at least one window formed in the pouch facing side, the at least one window aligned with a distal portion of the fluidic channel such that a portion of the fluidic channel is visible through the window. In another embodiment, an ostomy appliance includes a skin barrier material and an ultrasonic detection device for monitoring the skin barrier material.

Ostomy appliance configured for leakage detection

An ostomy leakage detection system includes a sensing accessory, a wearable subsystem, a charging dock, and a mobile application. The sensing accessory includes a sensor region comprising a plurality of sensors for measuring resistance of an ostomy appliance, a connector region for connecting to the wearable subsystem, and a tail region extending between the sensor region and the connector region.

An ostomy appliance includes a substrate and at least one Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) circuit disposed on the substrate. The RFID circuit includes a RFID transponder having an antenna and a conductive ink connected in series with the antenna and the RFID transponder. The conductive ink is configured to dissolve in response to exposure to moisture. The RFID circuit is in a closed condition when the conductive ink extends continuously between the RFID transponder and the antenna. The RFID circuit is in an open condition when at least a portion of the conductive ink is dissolved.

An ostomy collection and drainage system includes an ostomy pouch having an outer wall defining an internal collection area, an inlet opening formed in the outer wall and an outlet body connected to the outer wall having an outlet opening extending therethrough, the outlet body having one of a latch and a catch. The system further includes a closure configured for removable coupling to the outlet body and an adapter configured for removable coupling to the outlet body, the adapter having an adapter opening extending therethrough and the other of the latch and the catch. The adapter and the closure are interchangeably coupled to the outlet body such that in a first condition the adapter is coupled to the outlet body by way of engagement of the catch and the latch, and in a second condition the closure is coupled to the outlet body.

An ostomy device includes a proximal side configured for attachment to a user, a distal side opposite to the proximal side, and a leakage detection sensor having electrically conductive circuitry supported on a support layer. The leakage detection sensor is configured to detect ostomy effluent by detecting a change in resistance in the electrically conductive circuitry. The ostomy device may be an ostomy appliance or an ostomy accessory.

An ostomy appliance system includes an ostomy appliance having a stoma opening and a first electrical interface, and at least one thermal sensor configured to detect at least one thermal property, such as temperature, at the ostomy appliance, the at least one temperature sensor connected to the first electrical interface with electrical circuitry. A wearable device may be removably connected to the ostomy appliance and operably connected to the at least one thermal sensor. The wearable device includes a housing, a second electrical interface configured for electrical connection to the first electrical interface, a power supply and a controller operably connected to the power supply. The controller is configured to determine a condition of the ostomy appliance based on the at least one thermal property detected at the at least one thermal sensor. The wearable device may also include a wireless transceiver configured to communicate with a personal communication device.

An ostomy collection and drainage system includes an ostomy pouch () having an outer wall defining an internal collection area, an inlet opening () formed in the outer wall in fluid communication with the internal collection area and an outlet body () connected to the outer wall having an outlet opening extending therethrough in fluid communication with the internal collection area, the outlet body having one of a latch and a catch. The system further includes a closure () configured for removable coupling to the outlet body and an adapter () configured for removable coupling to the outlet body, the adapter having an adapter opening extending therethrough and the other of the latch and the catch. A drainable ostomy pouch outlet includes a single-piece closure member including at least one transversely-extending fold-line. The at least one transversely-extending fold-lines are configured to facilitate folding up and closing of the outlet. The single-piece closure member may also include at least one axially-extending or slanted fold-lines intersecting the at least one transversely-extending fold-line, configured to facilitate opening of the outlet.

A faceplate assembly for an ostomy pouch system including an invertible stoma collar is provided. The invertible stoma collar protrudes toward a stoma and defines an inlet opening. The invertible stoma collar is formed from a flexible material having an elastic memory, such that the stoma collar hugs the stoma as the stoma is received through the inlet opening, and becomes inverted. The inverted stoma collar has a tendency to regain its original shape, and thus, applies sufficient pressure to seal around the stoma without strangulating the stoma.

An ostomy barrier includes an inlet opening for receiving a stoma and a barrier adhesive including a plurality of thicker portions and a plurality of thinner portions. The plurality of thinner portions are configured and arranged to improve the flexibility of the ostomy barrier.

A trans-anal irrigation (TAI) device has a pump base unit, an irrigation fluid reservoir, a wireless electronic controller, fluid tubing, and a disposable rectal catheter in fluid communication with the tubing. The rectal catheter has a retention balloon and a waste control valve. The fluid tubing contains two or three separate lumens for irrigation fluid and retention balloon inflation/deflation and optionally for waste control valve actuation. None of the lumens ever communicates with any other lumen. A hydraulic control circuit has a pump that pumps in one direction only but, with suitable control valves, is able to pump water to and from the retention balloon and to and from an optional waste control valve. A water temperature sensor is mounted in the pump base unit at a thin-wall section. The temperature sensor sends a signal to a controller which provides an indication of whether the water temperature is suitable for use.
