Thermoplastic multilayer articles, methods of manufacture, and uses thereof

A fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composition includes a polypropylene polymer component including a low flow grade polypropylene and a high flow grade polypropylene, and a fiber reinforcement component. The fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composition is capable of being vacuum formed. In another aspect a thermoplastic composition includes a homopolymer component including polypropylene, a co-polymer component, an impact modifier, and one or more of a flame retardant component and a fiber reinforcement component. The thermoplastic composition is capable of being vacuum formed. The fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composition may be formed into an article such as an enclosure for an electrical component, and it may be chemically resistant to a medical grade cleaner.

Glass-filled polypropylene compositions

A thermoplastic composition comprising, based on the total weight of the thermoplastic composition: 40 to 80 wt. % of an aromatic polycarbonate; 10 to 40 wt. % of a reinforcing mineral filler; 0.05 to 1.5 wt. % of a fluorinated polymer; 10 to 35 wt. % of a polyetherimide; 0 to 1.5 wt. % of sodium trichlorobenzene sulphonate; optionally, 1 to 8 wt. % of an organic phosphorus-containing flame retardant; optionally, 0.05 to 20 wt. % of an impact modifier; and optionally, 0.05 to 5 wt. % of an additive composition comprising an antioxidant, a mold release agent, and a stabilizer.

A laminate structure having a first chemically strengthened glass layer, a second chemically strengthened glass layer, and a polymer interlayer structure intermediate the first and second glass layers. The polymer interlayer structure can include a first polymeric layer adjacent to the first glass layer, a second polymeric layer adjacent to the second glass layer, and a polymeric rigid core intermediate the first and second polymeric layers.

In one embodiment, a polymeric sheet, comprising: a foamed layer comprising a polymeric material, wherein the polymeric material has a Tg of greater than or equal to 100&#xb0; C.; and wherein the sheet has a weight reduction of 10% to 60%, as compared to a solid sheet of the same geometry and size formed from the same polymeric material. The sheet, at the thickness of 1.0 mm, has a smoke density of less than or equal to 200 particles after four minutes of burning according to ASTM E662-06. The sheet is thermoformable.

In an embodiment, a method for making a thermoplastic composition, comprising: melt polymerizing a polycarbonate, extruding and melt filtering the polycarbonate to form a melt filtered polycarbonate; forming the thermoplastic composition comprising the melt filtered polycarbonate, 0.03 to 0.05 wt % of a triacylglyceride release agent; and 0.10 to 0.14 wt % of a UV stabilizer; wherein the weight percentages are based on the total weight of the composition; and extruding the thermoplastic composition.

Enhanced polycarbonate extrusion grades

In some embodiments, a multilayer sheet comprises: a first cap layer formed from a first cap composition comprising polycarbonate and potassium perfluorobutane sulfonate; a second cap layer formed from a second cap composition comprising polycarbonate and potassium perfluorobutane sulfonate; and a core layer formed from a core composition comprising polycarbonate and without potassium perfluorobutane sulfonate. The core layer is disposed between the first cap layer and the second cap layer.

A composition is disclosed, comprising a polycarbonate resin, an inorganic infrared shielding additive, and carbon black, wherein an article prepared from the composition has the inorganic infrared shielding additive present at about 0.01 to about 1.0 grams per square meter, and carbon black present at about 0.001 to about 2.0 grams per square meter. The article prepared from the composition meets at least one scale requirement for European Norm EN 169 and/or EN 171, and is useful for preparing infrared shielding protective eyewear with low haze.

A thermoplastic polymer composition comprises a cyanophenyl endcapped polycarbonate, a potassium diphenyl sulphon-3-sulphonate; and brominated polycarbonate. A thermoplastic polycarbonate composition includes, based on the total weight of the thermoplastic polycarbonate composition: 15 to less than 40 wt. % of a reinforcing mineral filler; and greater than 60 to 85 wt. % of a polymer component, including, based on the weight of the polymer component, 68 to 99.9 wt. % of an aromatic polycarbonate, 0.1 to 2 wt. % of a fluorinated polymer, optionally, 0.1 to 25 wt. % of an impact modifier; and optionally, 0.1 to 5 wt. % of an additive composition including an antioxidant, a mold release agent, and a stabilizer; wherein a molded sample of the thermoplastic polycarbonate composition has no drips when measured in accordance with NF P 92-505 at a thickness of 3.0 mm.

Flame retardant polycarbonate compositions, method of manufacture thereof, and articles therefrom

Disclosed herein are multiwall sheets and methods for making the same. In one embodiment, a multiwall sheet comprises: main layers and transverse walls. The multiwall sheet comprises: a total thickness of greater than or equal to about 45 mm, a weight of greater than or equal to about 4.5 kg/m, and/or greater than or equal to about 8 cells and a U-value of less than or equal to about 1.2 W/mK. The multiwall sheet further comprises greater than 75 wt % branched polycarbonate resin, based upon a total weight of the multiwall sheet.

Flame retardant thermoplastic composition and articles formed therefrom

In some embodiments, a foamed polymer sheet comprises: a polymeric material and cells located in the polymeric material. The cells have a size distribution, Dof greater than or equal to 300 &#x3bc;m and the sheet has a light transmission of greater than or equal to about 5%. In another embodiment, the cells have an average diameter, as measured along a major axis, of about 1 mm to about 4 mm, and the sheet has a light transmission of greater than or equal to about 5%. In another embodiment, a method of making a foamed polymeric sheet comprises: combining a blowing agent with a polymeric material to form a mixture, nucleating bubbles in the mixture, and cooling the mixture. The mixture is at a sufficient temperature and the cells have a sufficient cell size such that the sheet has a light transmission of greater than or equal to 10%.
