A sanitary absorbent article is disclosed which is intended to be worn against a pudendal region of a user. The sanitary absorbent article is thin, i.e. having a thickness equal to or less than 5 mm and comprises a body contacting surface with at least one protrusion on the body contacting surface. The protrusion has a height H of at least 0.5 mm, and an equivalent width W. The protrusion also includes a ratio W/H ranging from about 2 to about 10.

A sanitary napkin for placement in a crotch portion of an undergarment of a wearer having a longitudinal axis and being further characterized by having at least one preferential bending zone extending obliquely in relation to the longitudinal axis. The preferential bending zone may be created by mechanically embossing the surface of the sanitary napkin to locally densify the absorbing materials of the article. The preferential bending zone causes the sanitary napkin to resist lateral compression forces exerted by the thighs of the wearer and thereby prevents bunching of the article on the undergarment. The preferential bending zone also enhances fluid distribution by channeling the fluid away from the point of contact. The advantages of the present invention are increased efficiency of the sanitary napkin in collecting bodily fluids and greater comfort for the wearer of the napkin, particularly when the napkin is thin.

Compression-resistant sanitary napkin

The present invention provides a sanitary napkin that is thin (less than 5 mm in thickness), highly absorbent and has a lateral flexibility allowing for controlled deformation when in use, namely the assumption of a 'W' pattern. This controlled deformation provides a good comfort potential and simultaneously reduces the likelihood of bunching due to compression forces exerted laterally against the napkin by the thighs of the wearer. In a specific example, the sanitary napkin is characterized by a pair of preferential bending zones extending along the longitudinal axis of the sanitary napkin and by a pair of longitudinal adhesive zones on the liquid-impervious barrier layer of the sanitary napkin, that register with the preferential bending zones. The longitudinal adhesive zones fasten the sanitary napkin to the undergarment at the areas at which the sanitary napkin is intended to fold when subjected to lateral compression. This feature allows the napkin to fold and adopt a desired three-dimensional deformation profile in a predictable manner when laterally compressed.

The invention provides a sanitary absorbent article, such as a feminine protection device, having a fibrous, liquid permeable body-facing cover layer, and an absorbent system, which exhibits particular rewet characteristics when subjected to mechanical stress. The sanitary absorbent article has a thickness of less than or equal to 5 mm, a capacity of at least 18 grams, a rewet potential of less than or equal to 0.8 grams, and a flexural resistance of less than 700 g.

Sanitary napkin with improved liquid retention capability

A sanitary napkin is disclosed that is thin, highly absorbent and has a flexibility selected to provide good comfort potential and at the same time reduce the likelihood of uncontrolled deformation, known as bunching. In a specific example, the sanitary napkin has a cover layer, an absorbent system and barrier layer. The absorbent system has superabsorbent material in a matrix of cellulosic fibers.

A sanitary absorbent napkin has a laminate structure coprising a first liquid-permeable sheet of material, a second liquid-permeable sheet of material disposed adjacent the first sheet, and an absorbent member for absorbing liquid and disposed adjacent to the second sheet. The second sheet is arranged to receive the liquid deposited on the first sheet and to transfer liquid to the absorbent member. The napkin has a thickness of less than or equal to about 5 mm, when dry, and a penetration time of less than 15 seconds.

This invention relates to a novel absorbent structure and absorbent products containing this absorbent structure. More particularly, the absorbent structure of this invention is a flexible and retentive reservoir layer comprising a perf-embossed or tenderized peat board material.
