Disclosed is a method for providing guidance to a user on where to arrange an object of interest in an operating room. The method includes obtaining a spatial pose of an item arranged within the operating room and obtaining a requirement on a spatial relationship between an object of interest and the item. The method also includes determining (a) a first spatial portion in which the object of interest is recommended to be arranged, the first spatial portion being larger than the object of interest, and/or (b) a second spatial portion in which the object of interest is not allowed to be arranged. Moreover, the method includes triggering display of a visualization of the first and/or second spatial portion to guide a user on where to arrange the first object of interest in the operating room.

Technique for providing guidance to a user on where to arrange an object of interest in an operating room

A method, a surgical registration device, a sensor device, a system, a computer program, a computer-readable medium and a data carrier signal are disclosed. The surgical registration device comprises a surface, an optical pattern on the surface, and an interface unit to attach to a tracking system. The method comprises obtaining an image of the surgical registration device, detecting the at least one optical pattern in the image, obtaining surface model data describing the surface, obtaining a location of the optical pattern with respect to the surface, determining, based on the detected optical pattern, the surface model data and the location of the optical pattern, a second pose of the surface, obtaining depth information describing three-dimensional coordinates of the surface and determining, based on the second pose, the surface model data and the depth information, a third pose of the surface of the surgical registration device.

Technique of determining a pose of a surgical registration device

A method of providing user guidance. First patient image data of a patient's body is obtained. A registration instruction indicative of where to acquire a registration point relative to a surface of the body is determined. Second patient image data of the body, having been acquired by an augmented reality device, is obtained. A transformation between coordinate systems of the first and the second patient image data is determined. Based on the transformation, display of the registration instruction on a display of the AR device is triggered such that a user of the AR device is presented an augmented view with the registration instruction being overlaid onto the patient's body. The augmented view guides the user where to acquire the registration point. Also disclosed are a computing system, a surgical navigation system, and a computer program product.

Technique of providing user guidance for obtaining a registration between patient image data and a surgical tracking system

A computer-implemented method for guiding a surgeon to acquire one or more registration points on a body of a patient. The method includes matching a non-patient-specific virtual mask to image data of a patient, and obtaining a plurality of image surface points defining a skin surface in the image data. The method further comprises determining, based on the matched virtual mask, for at least one of the plurality of image surface points, a priority value indicative of a priority for acquiring a registration point at a position, relative to the patient's body, that corresponds to a position of the at least one image surface point relative to the skin surface defined in the image data. The method also includes triggering display of a visualization of the priority value, or of a visualization of information derived from the priority value.

Technique for guiding acquisition of one or more registration points on a patient's body

The present disclosure relates to a surgical navigation system for the alignment of a surgical instrument and methods for its use, wherein the surgical navigation system may comprise a head-mounted display comprising a lens. The surgical navigation system may further comprise tracking unit, herein the tracking unit may be configured to track a patient tracker and/or a surgical instrument. Patient data may be registered to the patient tracker. The surgical instrument may define an instrument axis. The surgical navigation system may be configured to plan one or more trajectories based on the patient data. The head-mounted display may be configured to display augmented reality visualization, including an augmented reality position alignment visualization and/or an augmented reality angular alignment visualization related to the surgical instrument on the lens of the head-mounted display.

A method of guiding a surgical instrument during sinus surgery on a patient including receiving pre-operative patient data marked with a plurality of points defining a drainage pathway and determining a position of the surgical instrument relative to the planned drainage pathway. The method may further comprise generating an augmented reality image including a first visualization element representing the drainage pathway and a second visualization element comprising a plurality of circles spaced along the planned drainage pathway, and displaying the augmented reality image to help guide the surgical instrument. Technique for calibrating a registration of an augmented reality device

A method for generating an augmented reality image for supporting the adjustment of the position of a surgical instrument during sinus surgery comprising the steps of: selecting at least one of sinus cells, cavities and orifices of the sinus in a pre-operative image by marking them with at least one geometric primitive or tube shaped object; using real-time intra-operative imaging for displaying the operating field; determining the relative positions at least between the real-time imaging of the patient and the pre-operative image data; computing a virtual image corresponding to a real-time image comprising at least one marked geometric primitive or tube shaped object based on the determined relative positions; combining the virtual image and the real-time intraoperative image for visualization in an augmented reality image.

The present invention relates to a method for the segmentation and visualization of cell envelopes. A method is provided for the segmentation and visualization of cavities or orifices of the human body, comprising the steps of manual pre-segmentation of cells by defining enclosing geometric primitives in a 3D patient image for generating initial cell envelopes; analysing the cell anatomy within pre-segmented geometric primitives; using the result of the analysis for adjustment of the cell envelope and visualising the cell envelopes.
