The present invention relates to a method of patterning metallic building elements, and also to a metallic building element, where the measuring accuracy achieved can lie in the sub-micrometer range. Starting from a silicon master or original that can be etched to sub-micrometer precision and then plated with a metal, such as nickel (), on the silicon surface, there can be produced a nickel shim where precision and surface fineness can lie in the sub-micrometer range. Subsequent to removal of the silicon master, a photo-sensitive material () can be used in liquid form or in film form to create mould cavities () that reach down to the nickel shim. These cavities can then be metal-plated to provide a building element () of higher precision in three dimensions.

Metallic building element for optoelectronics

A solid-state laser or arrangement for wavelength conversion is disclosed, which in its simplest embodiment is comprised of a light-generating body arranged in a supporting means, the light-generating body having a shape which is substantially complementary to a guiding structure which is formed in the supporting means. The guiding structure is formed with a high degree of accuracy, for instance, by etching the supporting means or by replicating an original. Between the light-generating body and the guiding structure of the supporting means a thin contact layer is arranged, the purpose of which is to increase the adherence to and/or the heat transfer to the supporting means. Due to the fact that the contact layer is a deformable material, possible discrepancies as regards complementary between the guiding structure and the light-generating body will be filled by the contact layer whereby a close fit is obtained between the complementary structure.

Optical arrangement

A method of patterning metallic building elements, and also to a metallic building element, where the measuring accuracy achieved can lie in the sub-micrometer range is disclored. The present invention relates to a device for passively aligning at least one substrate-carried optical fiber with at least one optical device. The substrate is patterned with a buried etching stop layer. The substrate is then etched to provide a pattern of U-grooves whose depths correspond to the thickness of material that overlies the etching stop layer and whose positions on the substrate are aligned relative to the optical device. The optic fiber is disposed and fixed in the U-groove. The invention also relates to a device produced by means of said method.

Fiber aligning structure

The present invention relates to an angled opto-mechanical connector ( ) and to a manufacturing process for the same. The connector ( ) comprises a fixture ( ) with straight and parallel grooves ( ) of two sizes running on the upper side of the fixture ( ) from a first fixture side ( ) to a second fixture side ( ). A lid ( ) is fastened above the fixture ( ). Fibre ends ( ) of optical fibres ( ) are placed in the capillaries which are formed between the smaller grooves ( ) of the fixture and the lid ( ) in such a way that they stick out through the side of the fixture ( ). A plastic capsule ( ) encloses the fixture ( ), the lid ( ) and the fibres ( ) completely or partially. The fibres ( ) stick out from the plastic capsule ( ) in a direction separated from that defined by the grooves of the fixture. The connector ( ) can also have an opto-mechanical interface of the above mentioned type at its other end ( ).

Angled opto-mechanical device

The present invention relates to a manufacturing method for an opto-mechanical connector (,) and to the connector itself. The invention includes that a fixture (,) is manufactured with straight and parallel grooves (,) running on the upper side of the fixture (,) from a first fixture side (,) to a second fixture side (,), and which grooves (,) are intended partly for optical fibers and partly for guide pins. A lid (,) is attached above the fixture (,), whereafter optical fibers (,) from, for example, a fiber ribbon cable (,) are introduced into the grooves (,) intended for the fibers from the first fixture side (,) so that the fiber ends (,) extend out through the second fixture side (,). Guide pins (,) are furthermore introduced into the grooves (,) intended for the guide pins. The structure obtained (fixture (,), lid (,), fiber ends (,) and guide pins (,)) is completely or partially enclosed by a plastic capsule (,).
