Methods and systems of paying for content, such as, for example, audio and/or video content, are presented. In an example method, a task to be executed using at least one device resource associated with a user device is provided. Also, the task is to be executed during streaming of a content item. The streaming of the content item to the user device is caused to terminate in response to a determination that the execution of the task using the at least one device resource has been terminated.

Task-based payment for content

Devices, servers, systems and methods for content protection are provided. Disclosed embodiments improve temporal granularity of controlling access to the protected content and increase resilience against attacks attempting to prevent re-evaluation of conditions of access. Enforcement of re-evaluation may be based on the receipt and/or verification of tokens. In some embodiments, re-evaluation is enforced by periodically rendering content keys required for content decryption unuseable and/or clearing content keys already in use.

Content protection

A content handling device comprises a plurality of content transformation modules that can define one or more paths from a content source module to a content sink module. The content is associated with one or more usage rules requiring one or more transformations to be applied to the content. To enforce usage rules, each content transformation module is configured to receive the content, apply a transformation to the content in accordance with the usage rules and apply a tagging operation corresponding to the transformation to the content. In some embodiments output of the content by the content sink module is prevented if all tagging operations corresponding to the usage rules have not been applied. While in some embodiments usage rule tags corresponding to the usage rules are embedded locally at the content handling device, the disclosure also extends to a content distribution system with a usage rule tag embedding functionality.

Usage rules enforcement

Method to detect cloned software being used on a client user unit. An initialization phase comprises: defining a tag value as being equal to an initial random value, opening a new record storing the tag value and introducing the tag value into the client user unit. An operating phase comprises: preparing a client message comprising the request and a value depending on the tag value; sending the client message to the server; and checking if the tag value of the client message is correct with respect to the stored tag value. If they do not match, the requested service is denied. If they do match, the method sends a server message to the user unit; updates the tag value with a new tag value; and stores the new tag value on the server and user unit.

Method to detect cloned software

A method is disclosed for converting a conditional access content. This method includes receiving, by a cryptographic module of a first receiver, the content encrypted according to the first encryption mode; choosing a first entry data of the combination of the first encryption mode choosing a second entry data of the combination of the second encryption mode inverting the first and second input data in order to process the content received by the cryptographic module of the first receiver, this processing including a decryption operation according to the first encryption mode, by using the entry data corresponding to the second encryption mode, and to process the content obtained during the previous processing step, this processing including an encryption operation according to the second encryption mode, by using the entry data corresponding to the first encryption mode.

Method for converting a conditional access content and receiver for the implementation for said method

The present invention provides a method for secure communication of digital information between a transmission entity and at least one reception entity. The method may be applied in the domain of audio/video data transmission, where stuffing data packets comprising random payloads are inserted into a transport stream along with true data packets comprising the audio/video data. The dummy data packets are detectable by an authorized reception entity but not detectable by unauthorized reception entities. A large number of stuffing data packets are included in the transmission to occupy bandwidth and to further render the job difficult for an unauthorized reception entity which tries to intercept the transmission.
