A position sensor system is arranged for determining a position of a sensor device movable along a predefined path relative to a magnetic source. The system includes the magnetic source and the sensor device. The magnetic source has a first plurality of magnetic pole pairs arranged along a first track and a second plurality of magnetic pole pairs arranged along a second track, centrelines of the tracks are spaced apart by a predefined track distance. The sensor device is configured for measuring at least two orthogonal magnetic field components at a first sensor location, and at least two second orthogonal magnetic field components at a second sensor location. The first and second sensor location are spaced apart by a predefined sensor distance smaller than the predefined track distance, in a direction transverse to the tracks.

Position sensor system and method

A sensing system and a method for sensing position include a first magnetic track comprising a first number of multipoles for generating a magnetic field solidarily fixed to a second magnetic track for generating a magnetic field and a second sensor for sensing magnetic field, forming a magnetic structure. At least two sensors are included. The first sensor is positioned proximal to the first magnetic track, closer to the first magnetic track than to the second magnetic track. The second sensor is positioned proximal to the second magnetic track. The distance between the first sensor and the second magnetic track is larger than the distance between the second sensor and the second magnetic track. The magnetic flux density generated by the first and second magnetic tracks follow a ratio of two or more.

A system for measuring an angular position of a rotor with respect to a stator, wherein the rotor is rotatable around a rotation axis, and the system includes: a magnetic source mounted on the rotor, having at least four magnet poles and providing a periodically repetitive magnetic field pattern with respect to the rotation axis; a sensor mounted on the stator and comprising a plurality of sensor elements for measuring at least one magnetic field component of the magnetic field and for providing a measurement signal thereof; the sensor being located substantially centered around the rotation axis, in a plane substantially perpendicular to the rotation axis at a first distance from the magnetic source; the sensor elements being located substantially on a circle at a second distance from the rotation axis; a calculator that determines the angular position by calculating it from the measurement signals.

Arrangement, method and sensor for measuring an absolute angular position using a multi-pole magnet

A position sensor arrangement, comprising: a magnetic source and a position sensor device movably arranged relative to each other; the latter comprising at least three magnetic sensors for measuring said magnetic field; a processing unit for determining a position based on a ratio of a first pairwise difference and a second pairwise difference, the first pairwise difference being a difference of a first pair of two signals, the second pairwise difference signal being a difference of a second pair of two signals. A method of determining a position, by performing said measurements, and by calculating said differences and said ratio. A method of calibrating said position sensor, including the step of storing at least one parameter or a look-up table in a non-volatile memory. A method of auto-calibration.

Magnetic position sensor arrangement

A multi-element sensor for measuring a magnetic field. The multi-element sensor comprises a magnetic sensing element, and an electronic circuit. The magnetic sensing element is mounted on the electronic circuit and comprises a fractured tether. The magnetic sensing element is electrically connected with the electronic circuit. The electronic circuit is produced in a first technology and/or first material and the magnetic sensing element is produced in a second technology and/or second material different from the first technology/material.

An apparatus and a method for redundant measurements of a magnetic field originating from or influenced by a moveable object is described. Magnetic sensor

A semiconductor chip for measuring a magnetic field. The semiconductor chip comprises a magnetic sensing element, and an electronic circuit. The magnetic sensing element is mounted on the electronic circuit. The magnetic sensing element is electrically connected with the electronic circuit. The electronic circuit is produced in a first technology and/or first material and the magnetic sensing element is produced in a second technology and/or second material different from the first technology/material.

An arrangement for measuring an angular position of a rotor with respect to a stator, comprises a multi-pole magnet mounted on the rotor, and a sensor mounted on the stator and a plurality of sensor elements organized in two groups or four groups for measuring a magnetic field component. A method for calculating the angular position comprises making a sum of signals of the elements of each group, a ratio of the two sums, and an arctan function. Alternatively the method may comprise making a sum of signals, the difference of sums, a ratio of the differences, and an arctan function. An integrated sensor, and the use of such arrangement or sensor in an automotive environment.

A semiconductor chip for measuring a magnetic field based on the Hall effect. The semiconductor chip comprises an electrically conductive well having a first conductivity type, in a substrate having a second conductivity type. The semiconductor chip comprises at least four well contacts arranged at the surface of the well, and having the first conductivity type. The semiconductor chip comprises a plurality of buffer regions interleaved with the well contacts and having the first conductivity type. The buffer regions are highly conductive and the buffer region dimensions are such that at least part of the current from a well contact transits through one of its neighboring buffer regions.

Vertical hall sensors with reduced offset error

A magnetic field sensor structure having a number of inner, outer and intermediate electrodes, arranged in a particular manner, such that groups of four electrodes can be used to form horizontal Hall elements, whereby neighboring Hall elements 'share' one of the two readout electrodes. Multiple Hall elements may be biased and readout simultaneously. A modulated or unmodulated readout-technique may be used. Integrated magnetic concentrator may be added to the structure. The number of Hall elements may be odd or even. The structure can be used e.g. to measure the magnetic field of a 2-pole, 4-pole or 6-pole ring or disk magnet.

Magnetic field orientation sensor and angular position sensor using same
