A power conversion system includes a converter circuit having switching devices, driver circuits to operate the switching devices according to switching control signal, and power supplies to power the driver circuits. The individual power supplies include a transformer with a primary winding and a secondary winding, a reference node coupled to a first terminal of the secondary winding, a power supply output node coupled to a supply input of an associated one of the driver circuits, a rectifier, including a first terminal coupled to a second terminal of the secondary winding, and a second terminal coupled to the power supply output node, and a clamp circuit, including a first terminal coupled to the first terminal of the rectifier, and a second terminal coupled to the reference node.

Power conversion systems and filters therefor include conductive busbars, a first low frequency capacitor circuit coupled with the busbars at a first location proximate a filter input, a first inductor circuit with common mode cores extending around the busbars at a second location between the first location and a filter output, a second low frequency capacitor circuit coupled with the busbars at a third location between the second location and the filter output, a second inductor circuit with second common mode cores extending around the busbars at a fourth location between the third location and the filter output, a third low-frequency capacitor circuit coupled with the busbars at a fifth location between the fourth location and the filter output, and a high frequency fourth capacitor circuit, coupled with one of the busbars at the fifth location.

Methods and apparatus are presented for detecting degrading filter capacitors in motor drives or other power converters, in which an expected DC equivalent voltage and a measured DC equivalent voltage are computed according to sampled filter circuit currents and voltages, and compared to selectively identify filter capacitor degradation conditions in a power converter filter circuit.
