A vehicle wheel assembly comprises: a wheel for mounting a tire thereon; and an in-wheel motor mounted in the inner space of the wheel and comprising: a rotor connected to the wheel, wherein a magnet is mounted to a center portion of the rotor rotatably coupled with a bearing assembly and arranged at a rotation axis of the wheel, a stator configured to drive the rotor, a rotary sensor disposed in sensing relationship with the magnet mounted to the center portion of the rotor, the rotary sensor configured to be responsive to rotation of the magnet for generating a signal, and an electronic device comprising a circuit board and electronics; and a brake actuator configured to apply brake to the wheel or the rotor. The electronics mounted on the circuit board comprise a single electronic control unit configured to control both the in-wheel motor and the brake actuator.

Position sensors, including linear position sensors, that utilize magnetic field(s) are disclosed. Disclosed sensors include flux emitters and sensor assemblies. The sensor assemblies include flux collectors that interact with magnetic fields from flux emitters and with a magnetism sensing device. Flux emitters have arrangements of magnets that when combined with the sensor assembly can provide a constantly increasing or a constantly decreasing signal across a range of relative movement.

An actuator assembly comprises: a rotatable shaft, a magnet mounted to the rotatable shaft, non-magnet material positioned between the magnet and the shaft, a rotary sensor configured to be responsive to rotation of the magnet for generating a signal, and a housing comprising a magnetic shield surrounding at least a part of the rotary sensor and at least a part of the magnet mounted to the shaft to shield the sensor and the magnet from an external magnetic field. The actuator assembly further comprises a magnet holder fixing the magnet to the shaft. The magnetic shield encompasses the magnetic flux from the magnet to the rotary sensor and also shields the rotary sensor from any external magnetic field such as stray field or magnetic field from the outside of the housing. The non-magnetic material may reduce leakage magnetic flux from the magnet to the shaft.

A vehicle wheel assembly comprises a wheel for mounting a tire thereon and having an inner space; and an in-wheel motor mounted in the inner space of the wheel and comprising: a rotor connected to the wheel and configured to rotatable relative to a stator, the stator configured to drive the rotor, an electronic device comprising a circuit board and electronics mounted on the circuit board and configured to control the in-wheel motor, two-phase dielectric material, and covers coupled with the stator to form a hermetic enclosure. The electronic device and the two-phase dielectric material are contained in the hermetic enclosure formed by the wall of the stator and the covers coupled with stator, and the two-phase dielectric material is in contact with the wall of the stator and the electronic device to cool the stator and the electronic device by transitioning between a liquid phase and a gaseous phase, conduction, and convection.

Non-contact linear position sensor utilizing magnetic fields

A non-contact angle/torque sensor comprises an upper rotor in an annular shape having a central axis, and in which magnets are located, the magnets positioned within the annular shape around the central axis with the north and the south poles of adjacent magnets being oriented opposite to one another, and a lower rotor in an annular shape and sharing the central axis of the upper rotor, and located spaced outwardly from an outer circumferential surface of the upper rotor. The lower rotor has upper and lower stators spaced apart along the central axis. The upper stator has upper and lower backplanes and a series of upper and lower extensions extending from the respective backplanes. The upper extensions and the lower extensions are not intermeshed or overlapped.
