Curable coating compositions which contain, as the binder, one or more olefinically unsaturated compounds containing urethane groups, with or without one or more olefinically unsaturated compounds copolymerizable therewith, in which the olefinically unsaturated compound containing urethane groups is a reaction product of vinyl isocyanate and a compound which contains at least one hydroxyl group and at least one radical of an ester of an .alpha.,.beta.-olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid of 3 to 6 carbon atoms. The compositions may, for example, be used for the manufacture of coatings which can be cured with electron beams.

Curable coating composition

.alpha.-haloalkylcarbamyl halides are manufactured by reacting N-tert.-alkyl-N-1-alkenyl-carbamyl halides with a hydrogen halide at from -78.degree. C. to +80.degree. C. The .alpha.-haloalkylcarbamyl halides, e.g. .alpha.-chloroalkylcarbamyl chlorides, especially .alpha.-chloroethylcarbamyl chloride, prepared by the process of the invention, are valuable starting materials for the manufacture of surface-coating raw materials, textile coatings, dyes, drugs and crop protection agents.

Manufacture of .alpha.-haloalkylcarbamyl halides

N-Vinyl-N-alkyl-carbamic acid chlorides are manufactured by reacting crude Schiff bases, which have advantageously been manufactured in the presence of pentane, with phosgene and tertiary amines, treating the reaction mixture with water and then isolating the end product, after having separated off the aqueous phase containing the amine salt. The products are starting materials for the manufacture of surface-coating intermediates, plastics, paints and crop protection agents.

Manufacture of N-vinyl-N-alkyl-carbamic acid chlorides

Process for the manufacture of N-alkyl and N-alkenyl carbamates by reacting a hydroxyl compound with a carbamyl chloride essentially free from phosgene and hydrogen chloride at a temperature of from 60.degree. to 130.degree. C in alkyl or halogen benzenes as solvent.

Manufacture of .alpha.-naphthyl-N-methyl-carbamate

New and valuable 4-benzofuranyl esters having a good herbicidal action, herbicides containing these compounds as active ingredients, a process for controlling the growth of unwanted plants with these compounds, and a process for their manufacture.

Substituted dihydro benzofuranyl esters

Aliphatic isocyanates are produced by thermal decomposition of the corresponding .beta.-naphthyl carbamates.
