Methods of defining ontologies, word disambiguation methods, computer systems, and articles of manufacture are described according to some aspects. In one aspect, a word disambiguation method includes accessing textual content to be disambiguated, wherein the textual content comprises a plurality of words individually comprising a plurality of word senses, for an individual word of the textual content, identifying one of the word senses of the word as indicative of the meaning of the word in the textual content, for the individual word, selecting one of a plurality of event classes of a lexical database ontology using the identified word sense of the individual word, and for the individual word, associating the selected one of the event classes with the textual content to provide disambiguation of a meaning of the individual word in the textual content.

Methods of defining ontologies, word disambiguation methods, computer systems, and articles of manufacture

Lexicon generation methods, computer implemented lexicon editing methods, lexicon generation devices, lexicon editors, and articles of manufacture are described according to some aspects. In one aspect, a lexicon generation method includes providing a seed vector indicative of occurrences of a plurality of seed terms within a plurality of text items, providing a plurality of content vectors indicative of occurrences of respective ones of a plurality of content terms within the text items, comparing individual ones of the content vectors with respect to the seed vector, and responsive to the comparing, selecting at least one of the content terms as a term of a lexicon usable in sentiment analysis of text.

Lexicon generation methods, lexicon generation devices, and lexicon generation articles of manufacture

Quantification of the similarity between nodes in multiple electronic classification schemes is provided by automatically identifying relationships and similarities between nodes within and across the electronic classification schemes. Quantifying the similarity between a first node in a first electronic classification scheme and a second node in a second electronic classification scheme involves finding a third node in the first electronic classification scheme, wherein a first product value of an inter-scheme similarity value between the second and third nodes and an intra-scheme similarity value between the first and third nodes is a maximum. A fourth node in the second electronic classification scheme can be found, wherein a second product value of an inter-scheme similarity value between the first and fourth nodes and an intra-scheme similarity value between the second and fourth nodes is a maximum. The maximum between the first and second product values represents a measure of similarity between the first and second nodes.

Cross-ontological analytics for alignment of different classification schemes

A search request is received at an information retrieval system from a searcher. The search request preferably contains at least one search term and a user identifier. A plurality of objects are then searched based on the at least one search term. At least one located object is found from the plurality of objects. The at least one located object is associated with the search term(s). An intrinsic score based on the search term(s) is subsequently calculated for each located object. The intrinsic score is then adjusted to an adjusted score based on the difference between a creator expertise of a creator of the at least one located object and/or a contributor expertise of a contributor to the at least one located object, and a searcher expertise of the searcher.
