A stabilizing circuit is disclosed, which may be employed with lighting systems, such as with lighting system power supply operations. The circuit comprises a monitoring circuit configured to detect a characteristic of a power supply, and a switching controller configured to disconnect a primary load from the power supply and connect an auxiliary load to the power supply when the detected characteristic fails to meet a specified parameter. This is done to ensure compatibility and stability of both the power supply and the primary load. For example, when an AC mains voltage providing power to the power supply becomes unstable, the stabilizing circuit may be configured to prevent the power supply from remaining in a self-protection mode that may cause the primary load to become unstable. A method for stabilizing a circuit is also disclosed.

A traffic lamp and a method of controlling the traffic lamp based on a power signal are provided. The traffic lamp can include a controller and a light emitting element When a plurality of light emitting elements is included in the traffic lamp, each light emitting element is coupled with a separate controller. Each controller can be configured to include a predetermined light emitting timing sequence for the corresponding light emitting element. When the power signal is supplied to the traffic lamp, each controller determines a power signal characteristic such as a frequency or a period of the power signal and controls a light output of the light emitting element: based on the power signal characteristic and the light emitting timing sequence. A plurality of light emitting elements can be synchronized using the power signal applied to the traffic lamp.

LED traffic lamp control system

Provided is a method for controlling operation of an incandescent bulb emulator. The method includes converting, via a converter, an input voltage to a predetermined DC voltage, and driving an LED load based upon the predetermined DC voltage. In certain embodiments, input voltage may include an AC input voltage and a DC input voltage. The method also compares, via a controller, an input current curve of the incandescent bulb emulator with an input current curve of a simulated incandescent bulb responsive to the driven LED load. A DC driving current through the LED load is adjusted based upon the comparing. Amount of power delivered to LED load may be limited through an EMI filter having a magnetic design to match input current characteristics of incandescent bulb. The adjustment continues such that input current curve of incandescent bulb emulator matches the input current curve of the simulated incandescent light bulb.

Methods and apparatus of incandescent bulb emulator

Systems and methods for monitoring operating parameters of traffic lamps. A traffic lamp includes one or more memory modules and a controller. The controller receives data pertaining to one or more operating parameters of the traffic lamp and logs the one or more operating parameters to the one or more memory modules using the received data. The controller may log the one or more operating parameters to the one or more memory modules upon detection of a fault in the one or more operating parameters.

The present subject matter is directed to an adaptive load circuit for use with traffic light control systems so as to permit operation using low current consumption lamps where the traffic light control systems were originally manufactured for operation with higher current consuming lamps. The adaptive load circuit provides a mechanism whereby an existing traffic light control system is fooled into accepting use of a low current consuming lamp by creating a specifically timed signal during an interval that the traffic light control system normally checks to determined lamp load characteristics.

The present disclosure provides a supplemental load circuit configured to provide a supplemental power consumption to enable a lamp unit operating at a low power consumption to operate with a traffic controller configured to test for a higher power consumption. The supplemental load circuit includes a load, power input circuitry configured to receive a DC power signal from the lamp unit, and a control switch configured to receive a control signal having a duty cycle from the lamp unit. The control switch is configured to control application of the DC power signal to the load by the power input circuitry based on the duty cycle of the control signal. The present disclosure also provides a method for enabling a lamp unit to operate with a traffic controller designed for higher power lamp units.

Supplemental load circuit for low power traffic lamps

An LED lamp assembly includes a power supply configured to receive an input power signal and provide a DC lamp current, a dimming controller coupled to the power supply and configured to adjust the DC lamp current, and an LED lamp coupled to the DC lamp current. The dimming controller is configured to determine if full brightness or dimmed brightness is required based at least in part on the input power signal. The DC lamp current is maintained at a first level when full brightness is required and at a second level when dimmed brightness is required.

A safety flashing detector that suitably detects unintentional flashing of the LED light engine in a traffic lamp is provided. The LED light engine may flash unintentionally when there are failures (hardware or software) inside a traffic lamp. In certain embodiments, unintentional flashing may be detected using a current sensor. If unintentional flashing is detected, the flashing detector may activate and shut down the LED light engine to remove the hazardous failure and eventually triggers the fuse blowout circuit. Hardware circuitry is suitably employed for both reliability and safety purposes, but software may also be employed.

A system and method for setting operating parameters of traffic lamps. A traffic lamp including a memory operates according to one or more operating parameters on the memory. A loading device external to the traffic lamp transfers one or more operating parameters to the traffic lamp, where the traffic lamp sets the operating parameters to the transferred operating parameters.

An improved LED traffic signal is provided. The LED traffic signal suitably includes a housing with an opening, a printed circuit board coupled to the housing, and a power supply system coupled to the printed circuit board. The power supply system includes a power supply module that receives an AC input voltage from an AC input line and transforms the AC input voltage into a DC voltage with a regulated current to power the LED load, and a synchronized power pulse circuit connected to the power supply that generates a synchronized power pulse representing a power consumption substantially equivalent to that of a halogen or incandescent traffic signal.

According to one aspect of the present disclosure, systems and methods for monitoring one or more operating parameters of a traffic lamp and adjusting light output of one or more light sources thereof to correct for one or more degradation factors are provided. According to another aspect of the present disclosure, systems and methods for monitoring one or more operating parameters of a traffic lamp and generating an indication if end of life is detected with the traffic lamp, where end of life is determined based on the one or more operating parameters. According to another aspect of the present disclosure, systems and methods for monitoring one or more operating parameters of a traffic lamp and entering the traffic lamp into a self-protected mode if a fault is detected with the one or more operating parameters.

LED traffic signal compensation and protection methods

In accordance with one aspect of the present exemplary embodiment, an LED lamp is provided. In one embodiment, the LED lamp is made to be mounted in a traffic signal housing that includes other lamps, where the LED lamp can be red, yellow, green or another color and can represent a full ball aspect, an arrow aspect or another aspect. The LED lamp is adapted to be powered by an external power source and includes an input power circuit receiving an input voltage from the external power source. The input power circuit includes a power detection circuit that is adapted to determine a power state of the traffic LED lamp. The LED lamp further includes an LED load and a battery powered driving circuit. The battery power driving circuit drives the LED load if the power state of the LED lamp is in a power failure state.
