A method for determining the temperature of a metal strip () inside a cooling apparatus () of a hot rolling installation is implemented by an electronic device (). This method includes acquiring a temperature measure of a strip portion at a current time instant; estimating, at the current time instant, a heat flux extracted from the strip portion inside the cooling apparatus according to a thermal model, and computing a strip portion temperature at a next time instant from the acquired temperature measure and the estimated extracted heat flux. The thermal model models an air cooling of the strip portion, a coolant header cooling of the strip portion by a coolant header and a remaining coolant cooling of the strip portion, wherein for the coolant header cooling the model models both an impingement cooling of the strip portion and a parallel flow cooling of the strip portion.

A method for the regulation of at least one of the parameters (&#x3b1;) of a hot rolling process of a semi-finished metal product in at least one rolling mill stand having at least two work rolls is provided. The regulation method includes calculating a forward slip ratio (FWS) with the following equation: where vis the speed of the semi-finished product at the exit of the respective stand and vis the linear velocity of the work rolls; calculating an estimated coefficient of friction (&#x3bc;) as a function of a measured value of the screwdown force (F) of the work rolls in the stand and of the forward slip ratio (FWS); and regulating at least one of the parameters (&#x3b1;) based on the calculated estimated coefficient of friction (&#x3bc;).

Hot rolling method

A method of rolling a strip is provided. The method includes determining a value representative of the lateral position of the strip along a line transverse to a run direction downstream of each stand and calculating algebraic differences between the lateral positions and a reference position. A value of additional tilt is calculated from the algebraic differences to bring the algebraic differences below a predetermined threshold. Calculating the additional tilt values includes multiplying the algebraic differences by a gain matrix K that is determined by modeling relationships linking the algebraic differences and the tilts of the stand rolls. The additional tilt value is transmitted to each of the stands. The steps are repeated at predetermined time intervals until the strip is no longer gripped in the nip of the last stand of the rolling mill. A device for adjusting the lateral position of a strip is also provided.
