A multiphase burner for flaring gaseous/liquid combustible mixtures is disclosed. The burner may include a hollow base with an inlet for receiving the combustible gas/liquid mixture as well as a distal end that may be coupled to or that forms a nozzle cap. The nozzle cap may form as first outlet. The base may be coupled to a central body and a hollow bushing that encircles at least part of the central body. The base may form a mouth disposed between the inlet and the central body. The mouth may be in communication with a first passage that extends from the mouth to the first outlet and between the bushing and the distal end of the base. The mouth may be in communication with a second passage that extends from the mouth to the second outlet and between the bushing and central body.

Multiphase burner

A burner assembly () for flaring low calorific gases, such as methane with high carbon dioxide content, may be configured to provide a gradual decrease in flow velocity. The burner assembly () may include a conical deflector () that creates a relatively large recirculation zone () downstream of the deflector (), thereby to stabilize fluid flow. A swirl inducing structure positioned in a final stage of the burner assembly () further stabilizes the fluid flow and flame at different gas flow rates.

Burner assembly for flaring low calorific gases

A technique facilitates drilling applications by providing a unique flex joint. In one embodiment, the flex joint has an adjustable bending stiffness while being much more compact than conventional flex joints. The flex joint also may be designed to de-couple bending moments from the tool joints and, in some applications, can operate as an active vibration and shock control sub by incorporating suitable sensors and a hydraulic actuator system. The design also enables incorporation of other features, such as electrical insulation features disposed above and/or below the flex joint. In some applications, the flex joint also may have an electrical feed through.

Flex joint for downhole drilling applications

A technique facilitates downhole drilling applications by providing a universal joint. The universal joint has a high load carrying capability presented in a compact and simple configuration. The high load carrying capability is achieved by techniques employing unique load transfer mechanisms. For example, higher load capability may be provided by a load sharing principal in which torque loads are jointly transmitted through universal joint pins and the side faces of a universal joint cross. The higher load capability also may be achieved by transferring loads through a monolithic cross having integral pins and a split yoke/clevis assembly. In another embodiment, higher load capability results from using universal joint pins inserted from the inside of the universal joint and screwed outwardly until full engagement with the joint yokes is achieved. Each of the universal joint embodiments also may be designed to enable pressure-sealed flow of drilling mud through the joint.

High load universal joint for downhole rotary steerable drilling tool

A technique facilitates the drilling of deviated wellbores. A steerable drilling system is formed with a pair of components pivotably mounted with respect to each other. A removable strike ring is mounted to one of the steerable drilling system components and is positioned to engage a corresponding strike ring in a manner which limits the maximum pivot angle between the steerable drilling system components. By interchanging the removable strike ring with other removable strike rings, the maximum pivot angle can be adjusted in the field to accommodate drilling of a wider variety of deviated wellbores.

Adjustable rotary steerable system

A rotary steerable system ('RSS') includes a drive coupling having a first section adapted for connection within a drill string and a second section adapted for supporting a drill bit. A flexible joint connects the first section to the second section for transmitting drilling loads, such as torque and weight, therebetween and permitting pivoting of the second relative to the first section. A tubular sleeve is disposed about the flexible joint and at least portions of the first section and the second section. The tubular sleeve is connected to the second section for movement therewith and is sized to permit pivoting movement of the tubular sleeve relative to the portion of the first section disposed therein. At least three actuators are carried by the portion of the drive coupling's first section that is disposed within the tubular sleeve for applying a pivoting force to an inner surface of the tubular sleeve when activated.

Rotary steerable drilling system

A steerable drilling system including a bias unit and a separator. The separator is arranged to remove particulate matter from the supply of pressurized drilling mud to the actuator of the bias unit. The separator includes a hydrocyclone located upstream of the actuators. The hydrocyclone includes a housing defining a substantially conical recess having a large diameter end and a small diameter end. An inlet is in fluid communication with the large diameter end for providing the drilling mud thereto. A first outlet is in fluid communication with the small diameter end for outlet of relatively dirty mud. A second outlet is in fluid communication with the large diameter end for outlet of a supply of relatively clean mud for the plurality of actuators.

Steerable drilling system

A two stage filter for drilling fluid using downhole tools filters solid materials from the drilling fluid and has a first, outer filter section and a second, inner filter section. A portion of the drilling fluid flowing through the first section is received by the second section, and passed on to the fluid using device of the tool. A flow area of the first filter section is greater than a flow area of the second filter section.
