A universal clamp apparatus for orthopedic exterior fixators is disclosed. Preferably, the universal clamp apparatus has two pin/rod clamps, each having seating grooves for attaching to a frame rod associated with a frame of the fixator and/or a bone pin for implantation in a bone fragment. A clamp screw extends through and connects the first and second pin/rod clamps. An ergonomically designed knob having at least one collapsible or non-collapsible turn lever acts as a torque amplifier when rotated by hand without tools to tighten and untighten the pin/rod clamps to the frame rod and/or bone pin by movement along the clamp screw. The pin/rod clamps have planar sides that are contiguous and have radial ratchet grooves that are in mating engagement and provide a ratcheting mechanism so that the rotation of the pin/rod clamps relative to each other occurs in incremental rotational steps.

Universal clamp apparatus for bone fixation device

The disclosure relates to medical devices and methods of manufacturing medical devices. An orthopedic screw includes an inner core member having a head having a first outer diameter, a tip having a second outer diameter, and a body extending between the head and the tip and having a third outer diameter that is less than the first outer diameter and the second outer diameter. An outer body member is disposed circumferentially around the body of the inner core member and defines an outer body member external thread. The tip of the inner core member can define an inner core member external thread that forms an interrupted thread with the outer body member external thread.

A flexible surgical screw driver comprises a rotatable handle member, a shaft member and a flexible member. The handle member is configured with a first coupling means and the shaft member with a second coupling means. These first and second coupling means are configured to cooperate such that the handle member and the shaft member are angularly displaceable relative to each other and such that said handle member and said shaft member are non-rotatably coupled to each other for driving a screw with rotation transmitted from the handle member. The flexible member is configured to connect the handle member and the shaft member to each other and hold said handle member and said shaft member together such that the longitudinal axes thereof are substantially aligned and such that angular displacement of the handle member and the shaft member relative to each other such that the longitudinal axes thereof are misaligned, can be performed against the action of said flexible member.

A screw includes a head part, a threaded part and a flexible connector between the head part and the threaded part for transmitting a torsional force between the head part and the threaded part, and to allow two bending movements between the head part and the threaded part in opposite directions in the longitudinal axis of the screw. A guide wire control device for advancing a guide wire into a body or a portion of the body, comprises a handle member (), a lever () and a spring means (). The spring means () holds the lever () relative to the handle member () such that the longitudinal axis of a through-hole () in the lever () is misaligned with the longitudinal axis of an elongate passage () in the handle member () for locking the guide wire control device to a guide wire () extending through said elongate passage and said through-hole. Pivotal movement of the lever () brings the longitudinal axis of the through-hole () into alignment or substantial alignment with the longitudinal axis of the elongate passage () for release of the guide wire (). Pivotal movement of the lever () also brings the longitudinal axis of the through-hole () into renewed misalignment with the longitudinal axis of the elongate passage () for clamping of the guide wire ().

Guide wire control device

The present invention relates to an intramedullary nail for proximal femoral fractures. The intramedullary nail comprises an elongate body () with a longitudinal bore (). The elongate body () includes a proximal portion () with an oblique transverse bore () for a proximal locking member and a distal portion () with at least one transverse bore () for a distal locking member. An inlet end of the oblique transverse bore () is configured as a recess () with a recessed surface (). The recessed surface () is composed of recessed lateral surface portions () and a recessed proximal as well as a recessed distal surface portion (andrespectively). Each of the recessed lateral surface portions () is configured with at least one protuberance () for preventing or reducing the risk for misalignment of e.g. a reamer and, if misalignment occurs, this will not affect critical parts of the intramedullary nail.
