An assembly for assisting with positioning of an intervertebral implant, including an implant holder having an elongate body extending along a longitudinal axis between first and second ends, the first end being adapted to be attached to the stabilising wedge of an intervertebral implant, the first end of the implant holder having a deflection device including an opening having a central axis substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the implant holder but not converging with the longitudinal axis, the opening allowing the braid of an implant to pass therethrough in such a way that, when in use, the braid may have a first portion extending substantially perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis from the implant to the opening, and a second portion extending from the opening to the free end in a plane substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the implant holder to allow the tensioning of the braid.

Assembly for assisting with the positioning of an intervertebral implant and surgical kit incorporating the same

The present invention discloses a system for securing at least one fastener to an implant. At least one adhesive capsule is inserted in a recess preferably located along a longitudinal axis of the implant. The at least one adhesive capsule may be inserted in the recess and held in place therein by a holder. A plurality of adhesive capsules and holders may be inserted in one or more recesses located substantially along the longitudinal axis of the implant. The at least one adhesive capsule preferably has a casing housing an adhesive material configured to be pierced by the at least one fastener to secure the at least one fastener to an aperture of the implant. The casing of the adhesive capsule may form an annular passageway to receive a guide wire for aiding the insertion of the capsule in an implant having a longitudinal bore along at least a portion thereof.

Encapsulated screw locking system

A two-piece clamping element comprises two separate, i.e., non-integral, opposing first and second clamping jaws forming a laterally open cavity to receive a pin or rod-shaped element. Each clamping jaw has a bore aligned with one another to receive a screw, wherein a pivot bearing is arranged opposite said cavity allowing the two opposing clamping jaws to come in contact to one another. The pivot bearing comprises at least one set of complementary part-cylindrical bearing surface portions. An anti-rotation pin extends between the two jaw members.

Clamping and articulation element

The invention relates to a pelvic or scapular bone plate implant having a planar or curved outer frame portion. The frame has a surface which can be aligned with a surface of a bone to which the bone plate is to be implanted. The plate has a flap portion, the outer frame portion at least partially surrounds the flap portion such that the bone contacting surface the flap portion is located within the outer boundary of the frame portion. The flap portion is connected with the outer frame portion via a material interconnection which allows the flap to be bent with respect to the frame. A method for implanting such a bone plate implant is also taught.

Pelvic and scapular bone plate and method for implantation

The present invention discloses a system for securing at least one elongate fastener to an implant. At least one adhesive capsule is inserted in a recess preferably located along a longitudinal axis of the implant. The present invention discloses a system for releasing one or more therapeutic agents contained within a capsule onto or into an implant. At least one capsule is inserted in a recess preferably located along a longitudinal axis of the implant. The at least one adhesive capsule may be inserted in the recess and held in place therein by a holder. A plurality of adhesive capsules and holders may be inserted in one or more recesses located substantially along the longitudinal axis of the implant. The at least one capsule preferably has a casing housing one or more therapeutic agents, wherein the capsule is configured to be pierced by the at least one fastener to release the one or more therapeutic agents. The casing of the capsule may form an annular passageway to receive a guide wire for aiding the insertion of the capsule in an implant having a longitudinal bore along at least a portion thereof.

Therapeutic agent capsule for implants

An implantable orthopedic device having a load-bearing element, such as a bone plate, with at least one opening for a fixation element and one insert which can be inserted in an inclined opening in a receptacle in the bore. This insert has an external form that is at least partially complementary to the internal form of the receptacle and a central through-bore for receiving the body of the fixation element such as a bone screw. The insert also provides a locking system for holding the insert in the receptacle, in which the insert exhibits at least one locking mechanism with which conformal locking with the load-bearing element may be achieved.

Bone connection device

A device for stimulating the osteogenesis of a traumatized bone is mounted on a bone stabilizing implant. The device comprises a first component part comprising a first electrode, an isolating element, which is mounted at the first component part and a second component part comprising a second electrode. The second component part is mounted at the isolating element such that the first electrode and the second electrode are electrically isolated from each other. The power generation unit is electrically coupled both to the first electrode and to the second electrode. The first component part is designed to be attached to the implant in such a manner that the second component part intrudes in a region defined by a trauma within the bone. Further described is a medical system for stimulating the osteogenesis of a traumatized bone, the medical system comprising a bone stabilizing implant, which is adapted to be fixed to the traumatized bone, and an osteogenesis stimulation device as has been described above is mounted thereon.

Bone stimulation system

An extractor is provided to extract an insert used with a bone connection element such as a bone plate having at least one opening for a bone screw used with the insert. The extractor has an outer hollow sleeve having proximal abutment surface for engaging a surface portion of the bone plate, and an inner bar having a diameter enabling the insertion of the bar into the hollow sleeve. The bar has a threaded leading end to engage the thread of the insert to be extracted. The hollow sleeve has an inner thread and the inner bar has an outer threaded element for engaging the inner thread of the hollow sleeve. The outer threaded element is positioned with respect to the bar in a longitudinal position to enable the threaded locking end to extend beyond the proximal abutment surface of the sleeve to be threaded into the insert.

Extractor for a bone connection element

The invention relates to an implantable orthopaedic device comprising a load-bearing element, such as a bone plate, for fixing elements, such as bone screws, that can be oriented polyaxially. The load-bearing element is equipped with at least one opening for the passage of the fixing elements. A two part insert is provided in the opening, the insert having an external form that complements the internal form of the receiving opening and permits the polyaxial rotation of the insert in the opening. The insert is equipped with a central bore for receiving the body of the fixing element. The first insert element part has a central inner hollow chamber, into which the second insert element part can be introduced. The first insert element is flexible or has at least one slit, in such a way that when the two insert elements are displaced axially in relation to one another, the first insert element in the plate can be expanded at least partially in order to block the position and alignment of the fixing element in the device in a polyaxial manner.

Polyaxial locking implantable orthopedic fixation device

Bone plating implants, instruments, systems and methods for fracture fixation are provided. The systems includes the instruments and implants comprising a trial component, handle, aiming block, bone plate, tissue spreader, drill guide, K-wire guide, monoaxial screw-locking inserts, polyaxial screw-locking inserts, cable plugs, K-wires, monoaxial screws and polyaxial screws. The methods include the use of the instruments and implants for either open or minimally invasive fracture fixation surgery.

Bone plating implants, instruments and methods

A clamping element for the clamping of multiple rod-shaped elements has two opposing jaws, which have a number of corresponding grooves for the acceptance of a corresponding number of rod-shaped elements such as bone pins. Spring elements are provided, with which in the resting position the closed jaws are tensed, to hold the rod-shaped elements in position.

An external fixation system has clamps, rods and pins having anti-magnetic core parts and a non-conductive sheath part covering essentially the exterior surfaces of the core part. The rods, pins and clamps are especially MRI safe for a patient when used in any frame configuration for fractures of the upper and lower extremities and pelvis wherein the usual MRI field parameters of a static field of 2 Tesla, a time-varying filed of max. 20 Tesla/sec and a specific absorption rate (SAR) of max. 0.4 Watts/kg averaged over the whole body of the patient apply.

External fixation element

A one-piece clamping element has two opposing clamping jaws forming a laterally open cavity to receive a rod-shaped element. A hinge is located between the jaws, arranged opposite the cavity, and connecting the clamping jaws with one another and thus allowing them to be movable with respect to one another. Each clamping jaw has one bore, aligned flush with one another. One clamping jaw has a receptacle for an anti-rotation device. The receptacle makes it preferable&#x2014;with the exception of an immediate tightening of the screw in this or another place of an external fixator clamping element used for the same patient&#x2014;to use the clamping element only once and discarding it after use. Two identical clamping elements, with the possible exception of the size of the rod receptacle, can be placed on top of one another to form an articulation element.
